About this listen

Four years ago, firefighter Caleb Romero saved a child and met the woman of his dreams. But trauma killed the timing, so he’s contented himself with being the friend she needed as she navigated sudden parenthood.

Four years ago, Emerson Aldridge became a mom in the worst possible way. Without qualm, she abandoned her own dreams to shepherd her teenage daughter through their shared grief. Her number one priority has been to raise Fiona the way her best friend would have wanted.

Now, Fi’s headed off to college and Emerson has no idea how to feel about her suddenly empty nest. She barely even remembers life before motherhood, but Caleb’s right next door to give her a reminder - along with a toe-curling kiss that catapults them past friends and into something more. The life she wanted before the accident is still within reach. He just has to convince her that their age difference means nothing.

Piece of cake. Right?

First in series…but not the last for me

Totally loved this one. Liked the maturity of the characters, and though the storyline might have been a little predictable (come on…it’s a ROMANCE BOOK🥰). Just finished second in the series, and have just downloaded “The Misfit Inn: The Complete Series”, as well as a couple of prequels. Amy McFadden isn’t my favorite narrator, only because her voice sounds a little too young, but she’s a good actress, and brings the stories to life.

Amy McFadden shines!!

The first thing I enjoyed about this book was dedication to Amy McFadden and the heroine Emerson who makes a living as an audiobook narrator. I also appreciated Emerson’s numerous references to the firefighter hero Caleb and his fabulous “abs of glory”. While their story is somewhat predictable in nature I did enjoy Caleb’s past history with Emerson and her goddaughter Fiona, his long standing infatuation with Emerson, and the strong male presence he has in their lives. I liked Emerson, empathized with her reticence in getting involved with a younger man, and the pull she feels between her role as a mother and her desire for a relationship with Caleb. I liked the cameo appearances of Caleb’s fellow fosters and the ladies of the Misfit Inn and I especially enjoyed our narrator portraying a narrator and Amy McFadden is definitely one of the best.
