About this listen

Let’s Talk Shit is a humorous, easy to digest explanation of gastrointestinal disorders, their current treatments, as well as next generation hope for heart disease, obesity, autism, Alzheimer’s, and more. From constipation to cancer, research indicates that our unique microbiomes may be the basis for future advances in health and wellness.

Let’s Talk Shit examines the human microbiome - the dynamic world of bacteria, fungus, and viruses that comprises more than 50 percent of our mortal selves.

Dr. Sabine Hazan and Dr. Thomas Borody, leaders in microbiome research, explore the reason therapies may not be working for many and why fecal transplants may be part of the solution. They also share nutritional tips to avoid illness, improve digestion, and support our own microbiomes.

Fundamentals that we should be taught in our developmental years.

There is a great wealth of knowledge in this book. I thoroughly enjoyed it. The only downside was playback issues with speed changing on its own. I confirmed the issue was with the book and not the app.

Big surprise !

What a surprisingly entertaining and informative book! I listened to this over a couple of days, and was fascinated. The authors present a wealth of well-referenced research findings but in a way that is entirely approachable by a non-medical person, and relate this to the reader's lifestyle and experience. Always interesting, sometimes laugh out loud funny, it kept bringing surprises. Fecal transplant? Wot???? Who knew that was a thing?! A transplant of someone else's faeces as much of a life saver, in the right circumstances, as a blood transfusion? Well! I was persuaded by the science, and the delivery was spot on. OK, so here is my most daring suggestion: give this book to your relatives for Christmas. OK, well everyone's got a gut and at least occasionally feels interested in it, and most people are interested in their health, so it's a great listen for anyone. But for those really annoying relatives who go on about their constipation or their complicated food sensitiviites which I possibly don't always believe in, it would be a special treat. And just imagine their faces as they open the parcel. It would be worth it for that... Great book. Full of surprises. Biggest one was how much I enjoyed it.

Incredibly informative

I wish all doctor would read material about the gut and engage in discussions about the importance of good gut health.

Wealth of information

While the material is very interesting. I would recommend reading the hardcopy of the book rather than listening to it. There are some inconsistencies with the sound in the recording, and quite a few terms that the narrator had a little bit of trouble with which affects the listening experience.

Mediocre

Parts of it has echos. The way it’s written makes it difficult to keep your train of thought because after each statement (the name of the researcher/physician and year) is announced which is like a huge interruption in concentration. It made it unbearably for me to listen to the audiobook for any length of time.

Disappointed

I follow the author on X and was looking for some deep scientific knowledge about the microbiome. Instead this was written at a rudimentary level for people that most likely never heard of the topic before. The information was also presented in a choppy way and recorded at a very slow speed so it is hard to listen and follow at times. The humorous lines were just awkward and made it even harder to follow. It was worth the price to support her work but I hope her next book is better.
