About this listen

The 1980s cult classic, Compton Crook Award winner, and nominee for the John Campbell Award.

Two hundred years after a nuclear apocalypse forced humanity to flee earth, humans still remember the most feared warriors of that planet - the Paratwa. These are genetically modified killers who occupy two bodies controlled by one vicious mind. The legendary Paratwa named Reemul, known as the Liege-Killer, was the strongest of them all. Now someone has revived Reemul from stasis and sent him to terrorize the peaceful orbital colonies of Earth. Is this an isolated incident, or has the one who unleashed this terrible power announced a gambit for control over the entire human race?

I remember this being better the 1st time I read i

I read this book when it first came out (a long time ago), I remember liking a lot better when I was younger. The audible performance is awful. It seems like the only type of voices he can do are shrill ones. iI's made me reconsider listening to the other 3 books.

80s cult classic but more like one from the 50s

I have fond memories of this book when it came out in paperback. This audio version did not strike me the same way. Maybe because I'm 40 years older? Or because the narrator's style escaped from the 1950s? Or because I was constantly on the lookout for the technological updates the author applied to the book to make it more relatable to a 2020s audience? Or because I remembered much of the plot, so the slow reveals were way too slow? Probably a mix of all of the above. It got better once I cranked up the playback speed.

Worth reading more than once

I've read this trilogy a couple of times before in paperback. It was nice to return to the story in audiobook form. The story is thrilling, the universe scary. The narrator's performance of the range from menace to innocence, anger to tenderness was perfect for this tale.

Read the old paperbacks

I own and have read the old Paratwa trilogy several times and love it. I got my audible account & thought I would listen. I was disappointed in the revised/updated version with the left wing politics inserted. The story didn’t need it and it’s distracting. I highly recommend finding old copies at a used book store or eBay. The old classic are fantastic. The author’s fight scenes are detailed & easy to envision.
