About this listen

For eons, the truth about human evolution has remained hidden.
Until now....

Extinction Code

Geophysicist Jack Greer believes he may finally have found the resting place of the meteorite that wiped out the dinosaurs 65 million years ago. A few miles off the Yucatán coast, Jack and a team of scientists tow an aging drilling platform over the impact crater with the aim of securing a sample. But buried deep beneath the earth lies a shocking discovery that threatens to shatter everything we think we know about our species.

A world away, geneticist Dr. Mia Ward receives a mysterious delivery from her former boss and mentor, Alan Salzburg. In it are clues of a dire warning hidden inside the human genome, one which foretells man's very extinction.

His instructions to Mia are simple: Keep the information safe and, above all, trust no one - words all the more chilling after Alan turns up dead. But who wrote the message and what does it mean? Only Jack Greer holds the answers, but can she reach him in time to save the human race?

Extinction Countdown

Dr. Jack Greer's startling discovery beneath the Gulf of Mexico proved to the world we were not alone in the universe. But when images from the Voyager One space probe reveal an alien doomsday ship hurtling toward the earth, the human race seems marked for extinction.

As news of the approaching ship spreads panic around the globe, signs of a sinister plot begin to emerge - one that threatens to unravel the already fragile fabric of society and everything Jack and Dr. Mia Ward have fought for.

But could a mysterious signal emanating from inside Greenland's ice sheet unlock the secrets hidden within our genome and prevent humanity's destruction?

From the frozen fields of Greenland to the bustling Indian subcontinent and the cobbled streets of Rome, the race is on to stop the deadliest countdown to extinction the human race has ever known.

Extinction Crisis

With the doomsday ship only days away from impacting the Earth, humanity's demise seems all but assured. In every corner of the world, news of the impending destruction has led to chaos, looting, and the collapse of the rule of law.

As the foundations of civilization crumble around them, Jack and Mia must race to find answers to perhaps the most important questions of all time. Why have the Ateans repeatedly eradicated life on our planet? And could the key to ending the cycle of extinctions be locked somewhere within the Salzburg Chromosome?

Unraveling the mystery will mean journeying deep into the heart of a perilous alien world and facing off against the very beings who created us.

Great listen

It has been a while that I have listened to a book hours back to back, but with this series it was a breeze. This book kept me captivated and opened up my mind for "what if" possibilities. Although it was fiction, the author intertwined a lot of real facts which made this book a great listen. The narrator did a wonderful job working the characters of the women & men. Use your points, you will not be disappointed.

One lump or two, Tom said sweetly

This is a story with the makings of a great sci-fi epic. Unfortunately, the author is in desperate need of a competent editor. Someone should have pushed back on the crank it out style and made him go over the dialog and plot points. There used to be a series of jokes based on the simple childish writing of Victor Appleton II in the Tom Swift series. It's almost as if he has come back to life.
The story has too many just in time, saving at the last minute convenient plot points to also warm Tom's heart.
The reader actually has one character that he voices by, yes, holding his nose pinched shut. That doesn't get old.....
Having said all this, it's still a pretty good story. In the hands of a better author, it could be a great story.
The funny thing is, the last part, where the author recounts the various sources for some of his "science", is lucid and well written, proving that he could have done better. Let's hope that happens in the future.

I liked the story, but...

...I did not like the multiply threads that the author created, so I removed one star! I was hooked on the first book, but then came the terrorist, political drama and intrigue, etc.!

I did like the ending where the author explained where he got some of the scientific "facts" that he introduced in the book! Always a good idea in my mind, like reading an article and having it referenced!

Lived the level of scientific accuracy that went into this, author clearly did a lot of homework.

Extinction Series

This review addresses three novels. Extinction Code, Extinction Countdown, Extinction Crisis. Read them in that order, or listen to the audiobook box set. Plot. A research crew investigates the crater near the Yucatan peninsula that extinguished 75% of all life on earth. Surprise find? It isn't a meteor beneath the sea, but a space ship. We're off on a journey across the world in a race to prevent another apocalypse when we learn of another ship beneath the ice of Greenland, and yet another - earth-bound now!

Liked. It's a fascinating "what if" story, if only from the standpoint of what if we are not alone in the cosmos...thought provoking. Stretch your mind and enjoy some wild concepts. Very listenable, easy to follow, many likable characters, good guys, bad guys, and aliens!

Not so hot. Way over the head of anyone without an understanding of genetics - gets pretty deep into science that might make the nerds among us happy, but others will stare across the room and mutter, "Huh?"

Extinction Series is a good story, well worth a credit for SciFi fans. No sex, no objectionable language, no issues with narration or production.

Written by James D. Prescott, narrated by Gary Tiedemann, about 25 hours of listening, released in June 2019 - self-published.
