About this listen

It's been seven months since all the adults disappeared. Gone. It happens in one night. A girl who died now walks among the living; Zil and the Human Crew set fire to Perdido Beach, and amid the flames and smoke, Sam sees the figure of the boy he fears the most: Drake. But Drake is dead. Sam and Caine defeated him along with the Darkness - or so they thought. As Perdido Beach burns, battles rage: Astrid against the Town Council; the Human Crew versus the mutants; and Sam against Drake, who is back from the dead and ready to finish where he and Sam left off. And all the while deadly rumors are raging like the fire itself, spread by the prophetess Orsay and her companion, Nerezza. They say that death is a way to escape the FAYZ. Conditions are worse than ever, and kids are desperate to get out. But are they desperate enough to believe that death will set them free?

Critic reviews

"Grant continues to hurtle through an endlessly fascinating (and increasingly grim) story line; his chief achievement, though, is how the X-Men-style powers of his cast never overwhelm the mournful realization that their world is slowly degenerating into brutality." ( Booklist)

Always a great listen!

The way the narrator says “said” is a little odd, but overall is the best!

I love these books!

Amazing! I have never experienced books a great as these. The narrator is perfect and I love the different voices for each characters! I read the first three in middle school and they have since been my favorite and now thanks to audible I get to read/listen to them all!! Will be getting the hard copies to keep in my collection!

Beautiful series!

Honestly all the bad reviews just get on my nerves. He says one word you don’t like so you have to insult him? I think he does an amazing job of narrating and changing the voices and really understand the emotions of the kids. The book drives me crazy with how much violence and unnecessary problems arise but it’s such an amazingly entertaining ride. I couldn’t imagine who would portray Sam better than he is right now. I’ve been binge listening for his series and i can’t wait to start the next book.

great good, ok narrator

The book was really great and would 100% read it again. It's just that the narrator could have been better. Idk if they changed it from the narrator of hunger but either way they we're better. I still did get a little annoyed when he did a girls voice or when he over emphasized words or phrases. Over all it was a good listen and I would reccomend.

I absolutely loved this book! The story, characters and world building are amazing! The narrator really provided the emotions the author intended and made an already great book spectacular. 5/5 would recommend.

New characters & Plot Twists

When you think you know what to expect out of the Gone series, this book throws in a few curveballs! Characters are lost, new ones are added, and the map expands.

I did increase the narration sped up to 1.3 or 1.4 as I am a fast reader so it feels more natural to have the speed increased. The narrator just keeps getting better with each book, and I like how good he is at switching between character voices.

Read this Series

The Gone Series is an exciting story from the first book all the way through the series. I could not stop listening to this book. Kyle McCarley narration is how I found this series and I am glad to say I did. Michael Grant wrote a very interesting story. While the premise is copy from other ideas I have read, heard, and seen. They way the story unfolds is very enjoyable. World building for the story is very well written.

Awesome

Wow this book was full of twists and turns and surprises. The title is so fitting to the content of this story.

Sam has begun to loose it with all the pressure he puts on himself and the weight of responsibility.

Astrid has become self important and demanding.

And things are heating up.

What I don't know is...minor spoiler next...is if the parents being alive is real or not.

In this book we meet new characters and we loose some. It is a roller coaster of emotions and turmoil. This series is a must read.

Awesome story!

Great series, love the plot and the twists and turns. even my wife who isnt into genres like this one is deeply interested in the story. only downside is the narrarator, he tends to get old after a while but the story keeps me interested enough to deal with it.
