About this listen

Agnes’ plummet inside the Morris Island lighthouse became the stuff of local lore and ghost stories. But was her actual death driven by mental illness? Or did the lighthouse keeper play a part? The teacher?

This well-researched historical literary fiction illumines struggles meant to stay shrouded in a time when patience was a virtue, a lighthouse saved lives, and an earthquake was the furthest notion in the minds of those living in South Carolina's lowcountry.

This story drew me in from the first sentence! Narration is on point, and the story just flows. The only thing I didn't like is that it ended! Book Two?
I'll listen to that as well.

Made me want to travel!

Really enjoyed this book, I don’t generally listen to this genre but i know the places very well. If you enjoy the history of South Carolina’s coast you should definitely give a listen. The main characters are like-able and the setting dives into the culture of the post war south. The author has incredible sources for the historic truths outside of the narrative which adds to the delight of the book. If you ever make a trip to the Charleston area I’d recommend putting this one on the list and actually go visit some of the locations. Great job all around.

A showcase of humanity
