About this listen

Thaddeus Simpkins, dark master of his household and esteemed elder in the Waters of God Believers Church, rules his family in appalling and unforgiveable ways. His younger brother, Joseph, flees with the orphan girl he loves to find a new life away from the cloistered, intolerable existence under Thaddeus's thumb. When tragedy strikes the young couple, one is forced to return to Thaddeus' home.

Meanwhile, questions about lunacy are never far from the mind of Thaddeus' sister, Ida, and have everything to do with her niece's banishment to an asylum. The punishment is unfair and laced with ignorance. Will the family ever escape Thaddeus' shadow and find the love that has eluded them for decades.

Lightning Shall Strike pulls at the boundaries of desire and despair, where love stubbornly persists and beauty shines through.

Linda Kay Simmons is the author of Cahas Mountain and Lamb on a Tombstone. She makes her home at Smith Mountain Lake in Virginia.

Great story

This era in Appalachian history is literally the next decade after this authors first book, Cahas Mountain. Once again, the interpretation of the Appalachian dialect from the written word to Audible is great. The cadence is a bit slow for my taste, I like things to move along. But once I adapted to that, the story is compelling! Even if you are not a current fan of Appalachian fiction, you might just become one after reading and/or listening to this story..
