Publisher's summary

With more than 1.5 million copies sold, Killing Lincoln deftly recounts one of the most dramatic stories in American history—of how one gunshot changed the country forever.

In Lincoln's Last Days, Bill O'Reilly masterfully adapts his historical thriller to appeal to a younger audience. Shorter text and abundant photographs make this is a useful, inviting, and accessible audiobook for younger listeners interested in American history and the Civil War. Both adults and children are sure to find this volume irresistible on its own, or as a compelling companion to Killing Lincoln.

Critic reviews

“As a history major, I wish my required reading had been as well written as this truly vivid and emotionally engaging account of Lincoln's assassination. And as a former combat infantry officer, I found myself running for cover at the Civil War battle scenes. This is the story of an American tragedy that changed the course of history. If you think you know this story, you don't until you've read Killing Lincoln. Add historian to Bill O'Reilly's already impressive résumé.” —Nelson DeMille, author of The Lion and The Gold Coast

Killing Lincoln is a must read historical thriller. Bill O'Reilly recounts the dramatic events of the spring of 1865 with such exhilarating immediacy that you will feel like you are walking the streets of Washington DC on the night that John Wilkes Booth shot Abraham Lincoln. This is a hugely entertaining, heart-stopping read.” —Vince Flynn, author of American Assassin

“If Grisham wrote a novel about April 1865 . . . it might well read like Killing Lincoln.” —Peter J. Boyer, Newsweek

Excellent

If you could sum up Lincoln's Last Days in three words, what would they be?

Amazing new knowledge

Have you listened to any of Ed Hermann and Bill O'Reilly (introduction) ’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes. Both were hard to pause anywhere if I had to.

Any additional comments?

I've also listened to" Killing Lincoln", which has more detail of the civil war. The shorter version is perfect for younger people to understand ie " Lincoln's Last Days"

Interesting--Even for the Non-Historian

I'm not a history buff, but I still really enjoyed listening to the book. After all, it's rather incumbent that every American know about Lincoln's last days.

The book does a great job portraying the events in an interesting light. In fact, I had never before appreciated the extent of the conspiracy and that others besides Lincoln were meant to die on the night that Lincoln was shot. It's also amazing to learn about the lax security protecting Lincoln.

The narrator is fabulous and adds to the enjoyment of the book. I highly recommend this audio edition!

Great Juvenile Edition

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

It is perfect for kids and adults (that would like the gore and sex of the times filtered out). As a senior, I learned a lot too!

Lincoln's Last Days

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

This book was very interesting & kept at a good speed. We enjoyed the little side notes about the people in the book.

What about Ed Hermann and Bill O'Reilly (introduction) ’s performance did you like?

It was nice to hear directly from the author.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The events that led up to the death of Lincoln. You knew what was going to happen, but it was sad to see it all in the big picture.

Educational and keeps you interested!

The prologue is a bit bland (It is helpful to have the set up though) but once Edward Herrmann stars talking (Chapter 2) I'm hooked. I listened to this before, back in 2012-13 when it first came out & just got it again here. Both I and my 8 yr old daughter enjoy listening to it in the car so I'd say it's interesting for most ages!

importance of History

reading about President Lincoln is inspiring , knowing how important he is in history with what he accomplished yet still being a husband of a difficult wife, father of a child's dealth, and friend to nearly all who met him.
