About this listen

Every American president, from Washington to Biden: Their lives, policies, foibles, and legacies, assessed with clear-eyed authority and wit.

Authors of the acclaimed Killing books, the #1 bestselling narrative history series in the world, Bill O’Reilly and Martin Dugard begin a new direction with Confronting the Presidents.

From Washington to Jefferson, Lincoln to Franklin Delano Roosevelt, Kennedy to Nixon, Reagan to Obama and Biden, the 45 United States presidents have left lasting impacts on our nation. Some of their legacies continue today, some are justly forgotten, and some have changed as America has changed. Whether famous, infamous, or obscure, all the presidents shaped our nation in unexpected ways.

The authors' extensive research has uncovered never before seen historical facts based on private correspondence and newly discovered documentation, such as George Washington's troubled relationship with his mother.

In Confronting the Presidents, O’Reilly and Dugard present 45 wonderfully entertaining and insightful portraits of each president, with no-spin commentary on their achievements—or lack thereof.

Who best served America, and who undermined the founding ideals?

Who were the first ladies, and what were their surprising roles in making history?

Which presidents were the best, which the worst, and which didn’t have much impact?

How do decisions made in one era, under the pressure of particular circumstances, still resonate today?

And what do presidents like to eat, drink, and do when they aren’t working—or even sometimes when they are?

These and many more questions are answered in each fascinating chapter of Confronting the Presidents. Written with O’Reilly and Dugard’s signature style, authority, and eye for telling detail, Confronting the Presidents will delight all listeners of history, politics, and current affairs, especially during the 2024 election season.

Bill O'Reilly's Confronting the Presidents is nothing but a rehashed collection of facts anyone could find with a quick YouTube search. The book exists for one reason: to demonize Trump and sing hollow praises of Biden, a man who’s no longer even in the running. O'Reilly, ever the establishment mouthpiece, serves up tired narratives to stay relevant. This is no historical insight, just a pitiful attempt to bolster a fading political corpse. A clownish endeavor, devoid of substance.
So here we have it, another establishment stooge cashing in on the reputations of dead men while taking cheap shots at the living. Clownish is too kind a word for it.

I really enjoy O’riellys books for there unbiased, fact based analysis. Then. Dugard comes on with an obvious case of Trump derangement syndrome, and admiration of Biden in the prologue. Makes me wonder about the rest of the book.

Good Book, terrible prologue

The bias of the authors were revealed in the afterword and made me suspicious of the entire book. Just have to ask: “Why?” The next O’Reilly book should be “Killing Reputations”

The afterword ruined the book!

Can’t think why anyone would think Biden did a decent job. The man is a crook and not to be trusted What is O Riley thinking

Just enough information to encourage one to dive deeper into the Presidents. Very easy reading as with all of his books.

Great single volume text

You will learn so much from what you already think you know. The in depth summary of each President and their lives that led them to the highest office in the land will definitely give you something to talk about. This should be required reading in every school history class. You will see that the cycles we think unique to our time have been churning all through our history. This book will give you the perspective to realize that the United States of America is built to last!

Outstanding!!!

Learned a lot about the stuff they don’t teach in school. History is a great teacher.

A good listen

I thoroughly enjoyed the narrator and his ability to capture the attention of the listener... I listen to audiobooks to and from work. While I started with whimsical novels, I happened onto another of Bill O'Reilly's books: The United States of Trump and that's where I fell in love with his writing.

This audiobook should be required for High School American History class. I never thought I liked history as much a I do as an adult! Wish I knew all this stuff back when.

The way each president is portrayed- the good, the bad, and the sometimes.... wait, who am I kidding... the often UGLY was eye -opening. The back door deals, the infidelity of many, the corruption... WOW! I gained a great deal of respect for most, and lost some for others.

The truths about how our country grew from infancy to where we are today is appalling yet, like a train wreck, that you can't help but gawk at while driving by. I didn't want to shut the car off after getting to work or home.

I highly recommend this book as a condensed version of American history. It shows snippets of each presidency- sometimes funny, sometimes poignant, I learned more listening to this audiobook than I ever knew from high school history class. It made me want to learn more about each of them.

Normally I love all of Bill O’Reilly’s books, but I feel like he and Duggard really dropped the ball with the ending! They barely speak about anything that happened in Trump’s first term and in Biden’s only term!

And what makes it worst is in my view is, Duggard decided to end the book by making excuses for Joe Biden’s mishaps and kissing Joe Biden’s ass! I really wish they would’ve left that part out!

Great until the end!

I loved the book except for the ending… Diffidently learned a lot of new things.

But I think Dugard allowed his personal liberal views to shade his take on Presidents Trump and Biden. He is certainly infected with TDS, and never mentioned the massive corruption of Biden and family. Seems because he once met Biden, he is star struck and equates length of service as honorable regardless of his corruption.

O’Reilly A++, Dugard C-
