Have you ever been so scared your soul left your body?
All her life, Lesley Carpenter has been haunted by a gruesome nursery rhyme - "The Scottish Bride" - sung to her by her great grandmother. To find out more about its origins, Lesley visits the mysterious Isobel Warrender, the current hereditary owner of Linden Manor, a grand house with centuries of murky history surrounding it.
But her visit transforms into a nightmare when Lesley sees the ghost of the Scottish bride herself, a sight that, according to the rhyme, means certain death. The secrets of the house slowly reveal themselves to Lesley, terrible secrets of murder, evil, and a curse that soaks the very earth on which Linden Manor now stands. But Linden Manor has saved its most chilling secret for last.

Overall, I was distinctly underwhelmed by this book as too many things just don`t fit. Our main character, a divorced woman, has no other relationships in her life other than her mother and her academic tutor. When she thinks she is going crazy or is being haunted, she tells it all to her tutor - not a good career move, folks. Her "historical research" is about as thorough as the author's research into any background for her story.
The high point of this audio book is the narration. Nancy Peterson kept me going even when I was rolling my eyes at the characters and the plot. Her voice was soothing and her accent perfect.

As for the story itself, Linden Manor isn't per se a thriller, horror, or very scary book. Id' say it's more spooky. Does that make sense? There are some terrible things that happened at Linden Manor in the past and a curse was put on certain people by the Scottish Bride. Lesley Carpenter learns more about the house and it's history than she ends up really wishing to. I don't want to say more without giving any spoilers away. Suffice to say, the story is more spooky than actually scary.
It was a decent story, though I didn't feel as drawn in to the story as I would have liked. I think that may have been because I kept waiting for something bigger to happen, so that's on me. If you like a smooth, steady story, you'll probably love this! I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher for an honest review.
I could listen to Nancy Peterson narrate all day!

Where does Linden Manor rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
I really did like this story, i would rank it just about the middle of all my audiobooks, but near the top of the ones in this genre. What did you like best about this story?
I really liked the little twists. There wasn't anything huge that made me really think "holy cow, did i just read that right", but it was enough that i wanted to know what would happen next. What about Nancy Peterson’s performance did you like?
Nancy Peterson did do the voices really well. I never had to wonder who was talking and none of voices seemed strained or not right for the character. Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
The part near the end with the main characters mother.Any additional comments?
