Contents:

Book 1: Potions and Commotions

A magical town, a witch and a mermaid, and a murder most confusing....

Lola, a friendly young witch in the magical town of Warlor, has just opened up the town's first potions shop, along with elderly man-fairy, Pim-Pim. After Lola is asked out on a date by the handsome warlock, Detective Dereck, they decide to attend the grand Spring Welcome Celebration. However, all is not as well as it seems. Due to some unusual circumstances surrounding a sudden death, her best friend, Nawfar (who happens to be a mermaid), is accused of murder!

Can Lola and Dereck track down the true killer in time and prove Nawfar’s innocence?

Book 2: Witch Way Out

Lola Sphinx is beyond excited when she learns her mermaid best friend, Nawfar, has inherited a magical ring that allows her to walk on land for short periods of time. Along with the young fairy, Thicket, they head out on a hike and come upon a strange, magical gate that opens up into a new world.

Enjoying themselves at a roller rink, the local deejay is suddenly murdered and somehow Lola, Nawfar and Thicket find themselves in the middle of everything...while also trying to get back home in time before Nawfar reveals her true identity!

Book 3: Rats and Bats

Lola Sphinx's life as a witch has always been rather normal. That is until a non-magical man from the 1960s wound up stuck in her world. When Detective Dereck gets a little jealous, he takes Lola out on a lunch date to talk about her new friend whom she has cleverly disguised as an elf.

But when one of the servers winds up dead, can Dereck put his jealousy aside to work along with Lola to find the killer at large?

cozy mystery

These were nice short mysteries to listen to, when you don't have time for a novel.

Light ,Funny and Enjoyable

In opening her first shop Lola incurs different things, meeting different people, and murder. Light hearted amusement, witches and mermaids that is different. It is funny, cute and entertaining in this three book set

CUTE STORIES FOR THE FAMILY

The stories are cute. The characters are likeable. These are clean, short, cozy mysteries that the whole family could enjoy on a trip to grandma’s house. Just plan for the commercial breaks.

The three stories are cozy paranormal mysteries suitable for all ages. They are cute with a great variety of paranormal types of people – mermaids, witches, etc. Though appropriate for all ages, they are not dumbed down or over-simplified. Instead, there is some great opportunities to bring out a family discussion of things like crowd-mentality, the hippie generation, and jealousies.

Production note: Are you kidding me? Stopping at the beginning of chapter 5 and again at the beginning of chapter 8 for each book to plead for reviews was obnoxious! Six times in three hours!! By the sixth one, I just wanted the box set to be over. I had planned to finish the series this week, but now I hesitate to pick up the next book.

Narration: Laura Oskins’ voice is perfect for the genre - young, sweet, and energetic. Unfortunately her pauses were in odd places. I began to wonder if she was reading off of an enlarged copy that couldn’t keep up with her reading speed. That was the only explanation I could come up with that made sense.

Note: While I received this book as a gifted audiobook copy via Audio BookCrave, my opinions are my own and are given freely.

Mostly cute and quick stories

This was an okay cute collection of stories and if you are looking for a quick listen to pass the time these are for you. I did find it interesting that the author stopped each story, sometimes twice, to request listener reviews. Overall, again, short and sweet listens.

Couldn’t stand the narration

This review cannot be about the story because I was only able to listen to 8 minutes. The narrator would pause mid-sentence and used the same voice for multiple characters. It felt like the narrator was reading the story for the first time rather than the polished performance that I expected.
