About this listen

Fae games will change you . . . but their love will ruin you.

At least, that's what my mother told me. My mother had three rules:

1. Never make a bargain with a fairy.

2. Never enter the Waywoods on a hunting day.

3. Never give the High Fae princes a reason to notice you.

But even when I followed all the rules, the royal fae still took my family from me. So in one night I broke all three rules, and brought the kingdom to their knees.

Contains mature themes.

How can we end there!

You know I have such a love hate relationship with cliff hangers! One the one hand they are amazing because of course I immediately want to jump to the next book. But on the other hand I want to yeet my phone into the atmosphere 😂

There are so many questions and not enough answers! I am curious about many things and I don’t want to spoil this for anyone!

Great book and audiobook!

This book was on my TBR for way too long so when my December Audible credit became available I downloaded it and cued it up for my next audiobook.

First: The narrators did a great job bringing a voice to the characters! Their intonations, pace and cadence was perfect!

I really enjoyed the overall story that is set up. This is book 1 in a 4 book series and it really gives us some great character insight, sets the tone for the series and leaves you wanting to grab the next book!

We follow Lonnie as she goes from a servant in the castle to the accident next in line to the throne. In order to stake her claim to the throne she has to win Wilde Hunt, aka a set of deadly trials where all the other fae are out to get her. As if the trials aren’t bad enough, she also has the Everlast Princes taunting ber along the way.

We see the most of Prince Beal and Prince Scion. Despite their desperate attempt to despise Lonnie and her hatred for them, there is also tension building that I am dying to see more of in book 2.

An unexpected fantasy treasure

I try new-to-me authors when Audible has a big sale. I end up discarding more than 2/3, unfinished. This book was so good, I stopped to buy the sequel when only part way through.
The world-building was layered, the characters complex and the narration added to the experience rather than detracting or distracting. This author has won a place on my must-buy list.

Interesting story

An interesting story line and great performance. My only complaint is that the story feels unfinished. I get that with a series there will always be something left undone but this is really bad.

Hoo-wee!

Hoo-wee, was I diverted by this audiobook! I'm a huge fan of fae like the ones I loved as a preteen, something vicious and clever like Holly Black would write about. This audiobook came at a time I've felt very preoccupied and needing diversion-- only complaint is that it is so easy for voice actors to agree on how to pronounce the characters' names. The inconsistency took me out a bit-- big SciON fan, blame my weakness for brutal dark haired raven guys. Listening to the next book now!

Well written fantasy romance

I enjoyed the novelty of the storyline. It’s a well written fantasy romance with a likable fmc. I enjoyed the slow unraveling and I still have puzzles to unsolved, characters that are conflicted. Love the main narrator too.

Interesting plot

I like how this started and I like where it is going. The narrators a great. I feel like the characters should have more interactions and development because they seem kinda flat, but I still want to continue the series.

4.25 stars

This is a wild fantasy enemies to ??? full of hate and steamy steamy princes who cannot escape their absolute infatuation with the fmc. Fantasy world is easy to understand. The last 1/3 of the book had me in a chokehold. Immediately starting the next book with that epilogue
