About this listen

He took everything from me. My memories, my sanity - my freedom.

I don’t know who I am or why I'm here. All I know is that I'm his captive, his toy, his clueless slave.

Pain meets pleasure with fiery kisses as he molds me into the person he says I’m supposed to be.

But who is that person? And who was I before him?

I hate him for this.
I fear him like no one else.
And I'm drawn to him like a moth to the flame.

Every stroke of his hand brings me closer to the truth.

But when the veil of mystery is finally lifted, it only gives rise to more questions - and more dark secrets between us.

This is part one of a dark romance duet. Both parts are now available.

Book long confusion / Book 1 of duet series

Although I was confused throughout this entire 1st book, I still liked it. My curiosity to know what in the world is going on is killing me. Kinda ironic because you sympathize with Petal because the listener is as lost as she is. The book lives up to the title. The story goes from past to present a lot which made it even more confusing. The whole serial killer aspect is also confusing. Not sure exactly what Jason is. Medium??? Hypnotist??? Hopefully things will start to make more sense in book 2.

Kevin’s narration was disappointing

I couldn’t get past the the 10th chapter because of the male’s narrative voice. It’s hard to get in the right headspace of a young hot master when you have a 60 year old smoker voice telling the story. I gave the author 5 stars, because I have enjoyed her other novels. I don’t want this review to reflect on the author’s story line, but for me the performance deserves only 1 star since it I couldn’t finish hearing the rest of the story.

A novel cut in half, not a true duet series!

As soon as the cliffhanger of book one, of this duet, was finished. I immediately downloaded book two and continued. I enjoyed the mystery and trying to figure things out. What disappointed me was the way the resolution to the climax was explained through two short epilogues. The story would have been so much better if the reader/listener would have lived through the events immediately following the climax of the plot. I think that a couple of chapters that would have let events unfold, naturally, followed by a full epilogue of the future could have made this book a great book instead of a decent book.

I do want to note that had both halves of this, so called, duet had not been available and included in the Escape Package, I would have never listened to it. Why? Because, if you have read many of my reviews, you would have read about my feelings regarding authors that split a novel into two parts, for financial gain. In my opinion, this is an example of my pet peeve. Both parts together added up to about a 10 hour novel. If both halves would have been 10 hours each, then I might have considered it a true duet series.

why does the cover of the book not match the story of the book like this one

Who Am I?

Petal awakens in a darkened, concrete cell with no memory of who she is, or even was, and without her senses fully functional. Who did this to her? Her apparent captor, J, is watching her from his screen as she finally awakens. He has erased any memory of her existence so he can rebuild her mind, body and soul into the woman she's meant to be. How far has he already gone and what more can he do to help her to become that woman? Although tough and dominant, he is also tender and sweet. He gives her pleasure but cruelly takes it away. What is J's endgame? There are numerous time changes between past and present that clarify and add layers of intrigue to the story. I alternated between disliking Jayson and understanding that he was the famous, talented magic man who works miracles. He started planning this over 10 years ago and I'm certain it's going to be an exciting. terrifying but passionate journey to the end of their story. Stunning cliffhanger
Cindy Harden and Charlie Kevin do a wonderful job with the narration. Their voices are clear, dynamic and each character has a distinct personality!
