I don't know, I just don't know...

I can't for the life of me figure out how I feel about this series. I have to say that I was glad that it was 3 books in one, because I wouldn't have kept going after the first. I already felt bored with the constant denial, suspicion, and hatred from Mischa toward a woman that has already been through Hell and back. I didn't like how he was constantly cruel with his words toward her to try and make her strong. She needed that strength later in the last book, but he didn't need to break her down the way he did to provide that. Instead, he could have built her back up. He occasionally did that, but it was very rare.
The writing was well done in terms of developing and fleshing out characters that were interesting, but even with the length of these books, I didn't feel the level of connection that I've felt in the past. The books were 20 hours in length all together and it felt like they could have been condensed a little. It might just be me, but it just felt like the majority of the time was spent with Mischa and Rose fighting, trying to figure each other out, and then getting even more frustrated at each other when it didn't go the way they wanted. Mischa accuses any emotion that Rose shows of being fake, a ploy to seduce him and be her husband's spy. Even after he lied to her about Robert's whereabouts and what was going on with him and she contnues to try and be open about her horrible life without trying to run away, that still isn't enough. This woman bared her soul, her darkest secrets, and the man was so freaking dense that he still thought she was making it up because she was just acting to get intel from him. Unbelievable. Then, at some point that my silly brain couldn't pinpoint, I think the hatred became feigned and the B.S. was just Mischa's way of hiding that he'd already fallen in love with her, but I just couldn't take the insane levels of denial this guy went to just to hide from his feelings. I understand how it works with his backstory, I just don't prefer that kind of thing personally. The man was clearly obsessed with her from the start, and it just irritated me more than anything. It could have used a bit of comic relief here and there, just a little humor, even if it was dark. Even though I thought all this half way through the first book, I stuck it out. And I have to say, Robert was the only thing driving the plot of the book. He is constantly trying to put Rose back in her guilded cage and slam the door. I thought it was a little interesting that she'd been away from him for so long, yet the man kept her captive in her own mind. He remained a ghost that continually came between her and Mischa, and was hellbent on going to any and all lengths to get back a woman that he thought of as precious, yet also as property, like a little doll. I wanted to see more of Robert throughout the book, get to understand his madness a little more, but we do get a pretty good idea in the last book. He was an extremely complex and unique character. In some ways, he was much more human than Mischa. The man thought he loved Rose, lavished her with gifts (that he felt were appropriate, not what she wanted), and told her all the time how much he needed her. On the surface, that sounds like a dream in some ways, but he was truly a monster of epic proportions, hiding in plain sight. He's probably one of my favorite villains that I've read about recently because he had some unique characteristics. He seemed to be mentally ill along with an anger management problem, and Rose just did whatever he said to try and keep him from losing it. I wondered for hours why the woman would marry him, but the extent of his money and resources were just too daunting to her so instead she chose a guilded cage where she'd be violated in every way possible. In some ways, I can't blame her, but she was certainly dead already until Mischa took her, living that way. I think that when she finally realizes this later on, she takes the chance she's given to start living again and it made me happy to see how far she grew throughout the end of the second and throughout the third book. To conclude, I have mixed emotions about this one. I recommend getting this version, where you only pay one credit, but I would not have bought all three books if I had to pay for them all. It did provide some entertainment though, and the performances were well done so I have to give it 4 stars overall.

FOR FANS OF THE DELICIOUSLY DARK & DEPRAVED ONLY

Wow.. wow.. wow.. I’m physically and mentally exhausted after this dark, utterly unique, unpredictable, darkly twisted, complex, layered, compelling story. There isn’t a story in my library darker than this.. or more violent, terrifying, shocking and insanely addictive as this savage tale of Ellen and her struggles to survive her cruel manipulative capture by two powerful vengeful men and the manipulations they use to own her. There’s an unpredictable, scarred, tattooed, damaged, well-endowed antihero Mafia captor Mischa with no soul looking out from his empty eyes.. and there’s a possessive captor husband whose lies, violence and underhanded misdeeds have left emotional and physical scars on her body which shows his years of betrayal, depravity, misuse and possession. There’s a war brewing between feuding Mafia families and to trust anyone is stupid.. only plots and cunning intuition will lead the chosen to victory. But the road to Ellen’s HEA will be fraught with danger.. and desire.. and pain.. and tears.. and twists.. and torture.. and lust for a jailer who is every bit the monster whispered about.

Don’t expect fairytales or warm sweet beautiful chapters here either. This story is way over on the dark side about one woman’s horrific kidnapping nightmare, her gritty journey of torture and triumph.. her sexual chemistry and their animal attraction. Her strength, courage and endurance.. her compassion, growth and family roots.. and her love and loyalty to calm and claim her monster. He slowly sees, he slowly bends and he eventually meets her in the middle where they bury their heartbreaking pasts, reveal shocking secrets. make significant choices, slowly became allies, reshape their futures and stand together united.

WORTH A CREDIT? OMG, for me, it’s a definite yes and I’m in awe of you Ms Sky, you took me on a riveting, intense, unique non-stop climactic journey that spanned three books and I couldn’t stop or look away from it no matter the brutal or the brave scenes that were happening. It’s a five star suspenseful thrilling tale about an epic awesome fight for survival through dangerous bouts of undiluted rage and hate.. through sexual tension and raged simmers.. through lust and hated longing. It leads to tentative trust and truces.. to looking forward and finding your place and.. to love. Caitlin did a good job with the narration which was entirely told from Ellen’s POV as the Russian raged for blood, revenge and war.

A Good Series

For the most part, I loved this series. However, I hated the ending with a vengeance. There was so much I wanted to know...ugh

The narration was good for the most part but the male voices were a little off to where i could not understand what was being said.

It's a dark series...with a hint of spice.

Not predictable

I like the narrator a lot as I didn’t feel like the male voices in the story sounded feminine. I also thought aspects of the story were surprising to me as typically I can guess what’s going to happen in most stories.

The Entire Trilogy

I love this series of books, and I really enjoyed having all three audiobooks in one place. I let them play while I'm at work and can enjoy the arc of the story while I'm typing. Thrilling series. Great narration.

War of Roses Trilogy

A dark but oh so good listen. This book could trigger some but it only made it better for me. I enjoyed everything about this book. Characters were nicely developed, backstory is a part of the book and detailed. Narration was will done as well.

Very dark story

This dark psychological story is very dark and emotional Ellen has been kidnapped by Mischa, a misunderstanding but still it happens and Mischa is a very unpredictable and violent guy, he will try to break her down, she is already in her own hell and now she will find the unexpected. The whole story is original, refreshing, the whole series in a box set is a great way to get them, I got the audiobook set narrated by Caitlin Allgood Knight, I really liked her voice, the pacing was well done, and didn't struggle with it even though it was a very long audiobook.
