About this listen

Loveday Cardew prefers books to people, and her job in a York bookshop is her refuge. If you look carefully, you might see the first lines of the novels she loves the most tattooed on her skin, but there are secrets Loveday will never share.

Into the bookshop come a poet, a lover, a friend and three mysterious deliveries, each of which stirs unsettling memories she wants to forget. Turning the pages of her past will be the hardest thing Loveday has ever done. Can she trust those around her? Can she right a heartbreaking wrong? And will she find the words to tell her own story?

Drags With The Flashbacks

It is apparent that Loveday (good old Cornish name) had a difficult childhood. She keeps that a secret by maintaining a physical and emotional distance from people. It's hard to like Loveday as she's constantly pushing people away. The flashbacks aren't that enjoyable as eventually, it will lead up to those tragic events that she has kept hidden. It picks up towards the end and many of the characters are shown to have more depth than how they appeared through most of the book.

Really enjoyed this book.

Love Imogen Church as a narrator. Looked for books narrated by her since I liked other books she has narrated and found Lost for Words. The title fits the main character Loveday perfectly. The characters and story left me wanting more.

I’m so glad I listened to this

This book was not what I was expecting. It was a whole lot better. Some unforgettable characters and some storylines that flip tropes on their heads.

The voice actress, unfortunately, was not my favorite. There’s a lot of “edge of tears” voice and her men all sound a bit dopey. Still, it’s a great listen overall.

Poignant and thoroughly enjoyable!

There’s nothing better than a great story written by a gifted author and read with such feeling and inflection by a very talented narrator. Stephanie Butland expresses thoughts and sentiments so beautifully and the very talented Imogen Church is the best book narrator I have ever heard—an absolute joy to listen to! The setting is England and her different voices done in her delightful British accent…brilliant!

There is also a sequel—Found in a Bookshop. I was thrilled to find this after having listened to Lost for Words over a year ago, and was doubly thrilled to see that Imogen Church was once again the narrator. I highly recommend both of these excellent gems!

Healing

I loved the cycle of healing; the reality of the situation and knowledge that people are flawed and they are not one thing.

The Story Kept On Giving

I have read many books & listened to many audible books!!

This book is 1 of 4 that has EVER made me cry. The story hit home so deep & the tears came for happy parts and the sad parts.
Absolutely a BEAUTIFUL story of love, loss, friends made & even an awful boyfriend. Lol. It has mystery, giggles & even healing of hearts & lives.

Well written & just awesome characters development, in every way! I pictured the people & places as if I was watching a movie!!

I thought I was the "Queen of the stupid questions" however , Loveday claimed the title in the book. I loved the laugh with her sense of humour & her sharp edges. Loveday was a character I related to the most.

Imogen Church NEVER disappointed me in any book she narrated!! Her reading, emotions, intensity, all absolutely perfect!! I couldn't think of a better voice to have been Loveday.
