About this listen
Pride, prejudice, and a puppy! A romantic comedy from a Labrador's perspective.
Capone, the newly acquired puppy of Miss Josephine St. Clair, owner of Bartleby's Books, is a literature-loving Labrador. Obsessed with Jane Austen and cursed with a terrible name, Capone hopes to change his doggie karma and prove he's just as much a gentleman as the heroes in his favorite books by finding the perfect Mr. Darcy for the lonely and bookishly adorable Miss Josie.
Unfortunately, the only men Miss Josie seems to encounter aren't Darcys at all. They're Wickhams, Churchills, and Willoughbys. Even worse, there is trouble afoot. Someone has been sabotaging Miss Josie's business, and all signs point to her evil ex.
Can Capone find a way to save Bartleby's Books, help Miss Josie find her true love, and earn, at long last, a name befitting a true gentleman?

Story
Cara Snow is newly divorced, stuck working for a jerky boss at a pet boutique, and dreading her soon-to-be-empty nest with only her beloved corgi for company. Worse still, her ex just got engaged. Doesn’t she deserve some romance, too? Or, at least a date for the Fur Ball. She’s always enjoyed the annual pet rescue gala, but this year her ex will be there with his fiancée. Meanwhile, Cara hasn’t met anyone — other than the irresistible dogs at the boutique’s adoption events. Cara is shocked when her wish to fall for a man as easily as she does for those mutts summons Vincent. His velour track suit, paunchy belly, and tough-guy accent don't exactly fit her childhood image of a fairy godfather. Not exactly on top of his game, he admits to being twenty-five years late.

I was just your normal twentysomething with seven associate degrees and no idea what I wanted to do with my life. That is, until I died...Well, almost. As if a near-death experience at the hands of an old coffeemaker wasn't embarrassing enough, I woke up to find I could talk to animals. Or rather one animal in particular. I've taken to calling him Octo-Cat. He talks so fast he can be difficult to understand, but seems to be telling me that his late owner didn't die of natural causes like everyone believes.

You can’t help but to Love a Dog Named Al Capone!
I read the book when it was first released and enjoyed every minute of the story. But when I saw that it was being released as an audiobook, I knew I had to read (listen to it), again. Abigail Drake nears perfection at writing a story from the perspective of a dog. She opens the reader to a whole other world with her amazing descriptions and makes you feel like you a part of Capone’s world. Alex Bonner helps her words fly off the page and you feel engulfed by the story. The voices that he lends to each character gives even more in-depth feeling to the story and help you envision the story even better. You can feel what each character is feeling in each moment and you get caught up in the story. I highly recommend Abigail Drake’s book Love, Chocolate, and a Dog Named Al Capone. Print or Audio. Audio is a true delight to listen to!

A fantastic hangout with a puppy
First please realize that it is romantic type story. My husband heard me laughing and wanted to know why, I said, " Capone has a voice!" He sat down to listen with me. We have laughed and we are listening together. We love it! I read the book when it came out and throughly enjoyed it! But when Alex gave Capone, Jackson, Hans and the gang a voice it was spot on perfect! He tells the story with such passion and enthusiasm my husband and I can't wait until we are together to listen to him. Alex thank you for bringing everyone's loveable hound to life with a great feel good story from our wonderful Abigail Drake!

A puptastic tale!
Top 10 Reasons to Read Love, Chocolate, And A Dog Named Al Capone:
1.) A snuggly, rambunctious super-sniffer of a pup who has the best intentions.
2.) Josie, Nate, and Capone's affinity for Pride And Prejudice and all things Mr. Darcy.
3.) A rare book store full of literary treasures.
4.) A next-door coffee shop, with an owner who insists on gifting coffee until he discovers Josie's favorite (yes, please!)
5.) Lots of classic literary references.
6.) A story told from the perspective of a literature-loving Labrador with a penchant for mischief.
8.) A puppy's search for his owner's one true love (amid some adorable hijinks!)
9.) Plenty of fun nicknames for potential love interests (and exes)
10.) A cozy mystery vibe, tossed with the perfect mix of romcom and puppy shenanigans.
Have I enticed you to read this one yet?!?
Thank you so much to @abigaildrakeauthor @audiobookwormpromos and @audible for my gifted audio copy of this pup-tastic tale! I wholeheartedly enjoyed it, and just like Rebel Without a Claus (my first-ever Abigail Drake experience!), I'm waiting with bated breath for the sequel to this one, which hits shelves May 31!! Eee! I CANNOT WAIT!

Pride, Prejudice, a Puppy, and loads of fun
I loved this book purely from a fiction / romance story POV...
As a dog mom I can't agree with some of what is normalised here. I don't feel it has anything to do with the author, who comes across as kind and empathetic to animals. It is to do with what is being practiced because people don't know any different. So if you are a dog parent, read this book because you will enjoy it... Please do your due diligence before adopting any puppy or dog advice from any book of fiction though.
Moving on to why I L O V E D this book...
- the narrator did a fantastic job of representing Capone... As if labradors (and all other dogs) are not already illegally cute, the narrator makes Capone and his sheer adorableness (is that a word) come alive
- not only was the book's main protagonist a dog, the book was set in a book shop, and revolved around the Liz who owned that book shop... And she loves Pride and Prejudice, and Darcy... Totally my kind of girl she...
- the gazillion Pride And Prejudice references from the beginning of the book till the end... The tagline of the book is actually Pride Prejudice And A Puppy...
- the story is all things sweet and funny... and had a lovely HEA ending

Charming, easy, laughable read
This book is written from the perspective and voicing of the main character, a black lab puppy named Al Capone. The narration and voicing of Capone and the other canines and feline are hilarious. It's just a lighthearted read all the way around.
