Story
He wasn't born with the name Maniac Magee. He came into this world named Jeffrey Lionel Magee, but when his parents died and his life changed, so did his name. And Maniac Magee became a legend. Even today kids talk about how fast he could run; about how he hit an inside-the-park "frog" homer; about how no knot, no matter how snarled, would stay that way once he began to untie it. But the thing Maniac Magee is best known for is what he did for the kids from the East Side and those from the West Side.

This is a story about me, Lily. And me, Jake. We're twins and we're exactly alike. Not exactly! Whatever. This is a book we wrote about the summer we turned eleven and Jake ditched me. Please. I just started hanging out with some guys in the neighborhood. Right. So anyway, this is a book about: Goobers and supergoobers. Bullies. Clubhouses. True friends. Things getting built and wrecked and rebuilt. And about figuring out who we are.

In the tradition of Out of My Mind, Wonder, and Mockingbird, this is an intensely moving middle grade novel about being an outsider, coping with loss, and discovering the true meaning of family. Willow Chance is a 12-year-old genius, obsessed with nature and diagnosing medical conditions, who finds it comforting to count by sevens. Jerry does it again!
I fell in love with the mate to this book, "Stargirl", in 2004. Reading this now, after re-reading the latter as a blossoming adult, I can't help but fall in love all over again! Everything fits together effortlessly. I want to read the characters stories from now until I'm old and grey. It's beautifully written, read, and received. A must read/listen indeed <3

Fresh, Funny Follow Up
I enjoyed the follow up book just as much as the first one. Star Girl remains a friendly and extremely unique individual. She is very accepting of those she meets and she makes friends with other unusual and interesting people. After reading this book I feel my own creativity stirred and I feel inspired to go out and LIVE!
