About this listen

One reserved professional. One bubbly long-term temp. One gala to unite them.

Haylee Coleman can't lose another job. Flat-out broke, she's desperate to turn her life around, pay her bills, and keep her job. But more than that, she's found a place she might belong for the first time in her life. She can make a difference here. If only Cherish would like her. If only Cherish could help her figure out how not to get fired. If only Cherish wasn't so distracting.

With a bark that rivals the boss, Cherish Barkley lives and breathes her boss. She's loved Febe Aarts for decades. When the annual gala for the Holbrook Foundation looms, Cherish begs for Haylee's help. It has to go off without a hitch, unlike last year, when Febe… Cherish can think about that later. Right now, she has to protect Febe.

Will they put aside their differences long enough to ensure their boss survives the gala unscathed? Or will the mounting tension between them erupt in unsuspecting ways?

Find out what happens next in this sapphic age gap, workplace romance, with an ice queen in love with her boss and a curvy new assistant who won't give up on her dream.

I loved Taming of a Rebel and was not disappointed with this book at all.

dissapointing character

I wanted to like this book, really tried to but one of the main characters is simply unbleaveable. 11hours and she shows absolutely no character development what so ever, for someone who is in her 30s working at a company that specializes in therapy she is simply a train wreck of a human being. I understand not haveing confidence in yourself, but one of her maim gripes about herself is how she allegedly "messes everything up" than proceeds to self sabotage for the entire book while constantly spiraling out of controll in her own mind is simply unbelievable. if she was a teenager, or even a young adult, I could understand it maybe but given the age of the characters and their stated life experience it's just painful to lesion to her complain and moan while she all but cuts her own foot off by the end, (addmitably i still have a hour or two left in the book at this point but to drag it out this long is just annoying.)
on a side note, haveing 6 jobs before her current one being a big sticking point in her mind is a joke to me. not to mention the constant fear of "oh I'm going to get fired" after being in her job for nearly a year is so over blown in the story is grating. even the most socially acward persion I know would have a bit more confidence after half a year in a position.
aside from her, this book has a great premise; even the line up of characters could have been amazing but it all fell flat due to the emotional distance all the characters creat for themselves by refusing to talk to one another; another problem being they work at this supposed "super therapy conglomerate". they all need to step back, use their own serverce, and grow up. the story was just flat after a few hours. this book could have shaved off the last five hours and been "ok", but it beat an entire arch after that that I really hoped had some development in it... but didnt.
over all, it was just disappointing, i loved this authors other book, and the narrator did a great job! save your credit, maybe pick this one up if it gose on sale, but I wouldn't use a credit on it.

meh

I loved her first book, and was super excited to buy this one. This one is just ok. I really disliked Haileys character, she was whiney and just uggg. No amount of "growth" could make the first 6 hours palatable. The other issue was how slowwww the plot unwound. Dropping hints and not revealing the full back story for 6+ hours was just unnecessary angst, and dragged in the middle of the book.
I only finished reading because Quinn Riley is a wonderful narrator. I'll think twice before buying her next book.
