About this listen

Love and Deception is a narrator's dream - a challenge for sure. It's an anthology of three unique short stories and a novella combined in one volume. Each tale includes a love story, but elements of deception are always present.

In the opening story, "A Taste of Love", a couple in their 70s meet accidentally in a country inn 50 years after they ended their relationship and reflect on the years gone by, the might-have-been, and other circumstances. It has a twist of humor and is a lovely story with a beautiful ending.

"Number 23" is the story of a man trapped in a neurotic, sex-soaked marriage. He compulsively flies off to Thailand where he finds true love...but a shocking discovery may change everything.

In "The Other Woman", the mysterious death of a novelist's wife brings his relationship with the woman of his dreams into question in this fast-paced tale of suspense.

Against the Odds is a novella of love, war, and the ultimate deception when the destruction of Israel is imminent, and an impossible gamble becomes the only option.

All these stories have male and female characters, and a versatile narrator should be able to use his voice to distinguish both to some degree.

Audiobook is entrancing!

I downloaded the audio book version of Love & Deception and played it, from beginning to end, on a LONG drive. I love the narrator's voice and interpretations of the characters.
The book has four stories—one much longer than others—about deception in love. One is about two old folks rediscovering a lost love (very poignantly read--it could have been too sentimental, but the reading made it work), another about a guy overwhelmed by his sex-addict wife. A third story is a gripping courtroom drama and the last—and longest--story is an action adventure tale about some people who decide to blow up an Iran nuke plant to protect Israel. The narrator is unusually good and brings author Richard Brumer’s characters to life. It's a good listen for car trips and summer beach days and you can stop and start it after each story.

A wonderful collection!

I Ioved all of these stories except for the last one. The last one was um, sort of unbelievable at least some aspects.
