Publisher's summary

She was a nun of noble birth. He was a heretic, a reformer, and an outlaw of the Holy Roman Empire.

In the 16th century, nun Katharina von Bora's fate fell no further than the Abbey. Until she read the writings of Martin Luther. His sweeping Catholic church reformation - condemning a cloistered life and promoting the goodness of marriage - awakened her desire for everything she'd been forbidden. Including Martin Luther himself.

Despite the fact that the attraction and tension between them is undeniable, Luther holds fast to his convictions and remains isolated, refusing to risk anyone's life but his own. And Katharina longs for love, but is strong-willed. She clings proudly to her class distinction, pining for nobility over the heart of a reformer. They couldn't be more different.

But as the world comes tumbling down around them, and with Luther's threatened life a constant strain, these unlikely allies forge an unexpected bond of understanding, support, and love. Together, they will alter the religious landscape forever.

Reader nearly ruined this book completely!

Loved the style of the book and the story. The reader was VERY difficult to listen to! I will not purchase anything she reads again!

Well-paced and wonderful!

This story was most enjoyable! I did need to speed up the narration to 1.5x, but afterwards just set back as the author pulled me through an emotional and compelling introduction to life during the reformation. Finished the book in a day wanting to read more from this author. Also appreciated the narrator’s pronunciation and accent.

Great Story

I loved this book!

I love Jody Hedlund, but I've been a little hesitant to listen to this book because I felt like how could you make a passionate, love story about Martin Luther. Let me tell you Jody did it! It was a phenomenal love story! It was also exciting. Just a great overall story. And I loved learning more about Martin Luther!

Engaging story

This story was well-written, engaging and informative. The narrator read with an affected breathy voice that was didsracting to me. She also used so much accent that it was often hard to understand. Otherwise, it was an enjoyable peak into the life of a well-known historical figure and his wife.

Don’t let this book turn you off from Jody Hedlund

ALL of Jody hedlund’s books I’ve listened to have been GREAT until this one. They’re interesting and funny! I love the stories and the characters! HOWEVER… this narrator… pretty voice, but slow and boring unfortunately. Good story, but narrator kind of ruined it for me unfortunately.

Book fine, reader horrific

Had to listen to it on 1.5 and crank up the volume to even make her bare-able to listen to and still annoying.

Story was fine.
