Story
Michael Jackson was the pop icon the media loved to hate. Tremendously wealthy, inarguably eccentric, and one of the most famous people in the world, Jackson was the unenviable target of constant public humiliation. The media poked fun at his skin, his features, his sexuality, and his lifestyle. Here, seasoned crime reporter Aphrodite Jones condemns the media for perpetuating hateful rumors and innuendoes, recounting just the sordid details, and reporting only the most despicable accusations and grisly charges made against Michael Jackson during his criminal trial.

Hounded by the tabloid media, driven from his self-made sanctuary at Neverland, Michael Jackson spent his final years moving from city to city, living with his three children in virtual seclusion - a futile attempt to escape a world that wouldn’t leave him alone. During that time, two men served as the singer’s personal security team: Bill Whitfield, a former cop and veteran of the security profession, and Javon Beard, a brash, untested rookie, both single fathers themselves. Stationed at his side nearly 24/7, their job was to see and hear everything that transpired.

Story
The story of Stax Records unfolds like a Greek tragedy. A white brother and sister build a record company that becomes a monument to racial harmony in 1960’s segregated south Memphis. Their success is startling, and Stax soon defines an international sound. Then, after losses both business and personal, the siblings part, and the brother allies with a visionary African-American partner. Under integrated leadership, Stax explodes as a national player until, Icarus-like, they fall from great heights to a tragic demise.

Alice in Chains was the first of grunge's big four - ahead of Nirvana, Pearl Jam, and Soundgarden - to get a gold record and achieve national recognition. With the charismatic Layne Staley behind the microphone, they became one of the most influential and successful bands to come out of the Seattle music scene. But as the band got bigger, so did its problems.

Story
Everyone knows the hits: "Mony Mony," "I Think We're Alone Now," "Crimson and Clover," "Crystal Blue Persuasion." They are nuggets of rock and pop history. However, few know the unlikely story of how these hits came to be. Tommy James had been performing in rock bands in the Michigan area since the age of 12. Prompted to record a few songs by a local disc jockey in 1964, Tommy chose an obscurity titled "Hanky Panky," which became a minor local hit that came and went.

Story
Iggy Pop's legendary career has been tumultuous, reaching great heights with mega-hits and then hitting rock-bottom lows in jail and mental institutions. Along the way, he's become a cult-rock hero, an inspiration for dozens of other famous rockers, and has had a pretty good time of it, too. But the image of Iggy Pop versus the man behind that image, James Newell Osterberg, Jr., is surprisingly contradictory.

The age of the rock star, like the age of the cowboy, has passed. Like the cowboy, the idea of the rock star lives on in our imaginations. What did we see in them? Swagger. Recklessness. Sexual charisma. Damn-the-torpedoes self-belief. A certain way of carrying themselves. Good hair. Interesting shoes. Talent we wished we had. What did we want of them? To be larger than life but also like us. To live out their songs. To stay young forever. No wonder many didn't stay the course.

With more than 90 million records sold and eight Grammy Awards throughout its 40-year history, Earth, Wind & Fire has staked its claim as one of the most successful, influential, and beloved acts in music history. Now, for the first time, its dynamic lead singer, Philip Bailey, chronicles the group's meteoric rise to stardom and his own professional and spiritual journey. Never before had a musical act crossed multiple styles and genres with a quixotic blend of astrology, universalism, and Egyptology as Earth, Wind & Fire (EWF) did when it exploded into the public's conscience during the 1970s.

In 1992, Victor Bockris' celebrated biography was the first to recognize Richards' pivotal role in the legend of the Rolling Stones. Now that book on rock's most incredible survivor has been expanded. Here are the true facts behind Richards' battles with his demons: the women, the drugs and the love-hate relationship with Jagger. His struggle with heroin and his status as the rock star most likely to die in the 1970s. His scarcely believable rebirth as a family man in the 1980s. Illuminated with revealing quotes and thoughtful insights into the man behind the band that goes on forever.

Story
Thelonious Monk is the critically acclaimed, gripping saga of an artist's struggle to "make it" without compromising his musical vision. It is a story that, like its subject, reflects the tidal ebbs and flows of American history in the 20th century. To his fans, he was the ultimate hipster; to his detractors, he was temperamental, eccentric, taciturn, or childlike. His angular melodies and dissonant harmonies shook the jazz world to its foundations, ushering in the birth of "bebop" and establishing Monk as one of America's greatest composers.

Ok, just cookie cutter in a since.
A good book just sounds like every other book out there. Very cookie cutter not much feeling at all. The same phrasing and wordage in this book as well as many other works. I've read it twice just to make sure I got it and, I still feel like it missed true personallity. Now don't get me wrong, I love Michael Jackson but I feel as if his story is muffled here.

MJ as told from the white insiders perspective
If you are looking for a story that tells MJs story through a white music industry insiders perspective and doesn't really acknowledge racism or how racism played a large part in MJs life and his brand and influenced a lot of decisions he did (or did not) make...and you don't mind time warping around as its not told in chronological order....and you don't mind the fact MJs manager threatened the life of someone where he currently is employed and all the bias that brings into the story, this book is decent. As long as you know that there's a lot of racial bias and industry bias here you should be fine. There are some inaccuracies. Sometimes there are things I never heard before and I am unsure where the info came from. The thing I struggled most with that irritated me the most was the inability to acknowledge race in the situation, and that he had to deal with not triggering white peoples white fragility to survive. I feel like racial persecution was a huge part of Michael Jackson's demise, and that isn't even touched on. In fact, his demise is just kind of a blip in the book. This is more so a book about his entire life, but told from the perspective, white industry person. Which I think doesn't bring into focus the reason he was so traumatized and hurt. It feels like it's not told from a compassionate perspective from someone who could truly empathize with him so it's a story about him but it feels detached from his experience and perspective.

It is ok but no details of his creativity in here
As other reviewers have pointed out, this is not a book for a musical fan of Michael Jackson. I made the mistake of not reading the reviews myself. It sounded like it was authored by an accountant or an attorney. I was more looking forward to knowing about the creativity that went into the making of his landmark albums. But I was left disappointed and will have to look else where.
But you will get the answers to why Michael's life ended the way it did. It is interesting that there are contradictions regarding anything related to Michael. He was carefree with his spending. His family and law suits were constantly preying on him. His failing health and addictions would ultimately take him out. In the end, its an unfortunate tragedy of a exceptional talent.
