Publisher's summary

Duff MacCallister is heir to a fierce family of fighting Scotsmen. In a new land, in the extraordinary new saga by best-selling authors William W. Johnstone and J. A. Johnstone, Duff gives new meaning to the words without mercy.

The Indians around Fort Laramie, Wyoming, are peaceful. Or so it has seemed - until killers ambush a detail of US soldiers and an officer's wife. One man, an ambitious cavalry officer, flees the carnage and lives to tell the story - his own story, an outright lie. When Duff MacCallister and a few brave men go after the attackers, they discover the officer's wife is very much alive and at the cold merciless hands of the sadistic warrior Yellow Hawk. To free the woman, Duff touches off a fierce battle. And when he finds himself surrounded by the blood-crazed renegades, MacCallister knows there is only one way out - by going after Yellow Hawk himself....

Dry Gulch Ambush

This is one of my favorite books and series. All of Duffs books are good. I have listened to this book several times. It's that good. Also the dramatized version is good. There is a lot of action in this book. also a good storyline. I highly recommend trying this book and series. P. J. Ochlan does a great job narrating this book. Great Western

Johnstone has hit a home run with the way he has put the history in with his books. I loved how he introduced the Scotsman and weaved history of him into his son's life.

Tried and True

In the west a code of ethics was required. Strangely that code can be seen by white and Indian alike.

Bad Man Brought Down

That Duff was able to kill Yellow Hawk and save their lives having a son myself I felt Elmer's grief, and I liked Lutenant Scott exposing himself.

Surprised & Delighted

Great story telling . Love the multilayers. Enjoyed the characters. Right up the with Louis L’Amore and better than Zane Gray

Classic Johnstone

I am glad Audible offered the McGregor series free with subscription. I enjoyed the 3 part series but found there was several redundant parts word for word that I had to skip over. The narrator switched between characters voices amazing well. The Scottish brogue was impressive but some voices were definitely out of place like cowboys with New Jersey accents! The Jenson series was better written and more plausible (it didn’t contain ineffectual references to Pershing. Patton, Armstrong etc in WWI).

Ridiculous story

This story is set in an area my family has lived and ranched in since the 1870s. There is no knowledge of the Geography of the area. Not even a hint of its history. This is a wordy “dime” novel in veracity.
