About this listen

Ilona Andrews invites you to experience the first dramatized audiobook in the #1 New York Times bestselling series featuring the intriguing fantasy world of mercenary Kate Daniels.

When the magic is up, rogue mages cast their spells and monsters appear, while guns refuse to fire and cars fail to start. But then technology returns, and the magic recedes as unpredictably as it arose, leaving all kinds of paranormal problems in its wake.

Kate Daniels is a down-on-her-luck mercenary who makes her living cleaning up these magical problems. But when Kate’s guardian is murdered, her quest for justice draws her into a power struggle between two strong factions within Atlanta’s magic circles.

The Masters of the Dead, necromancers who can control vampires, and the Pack, a paramilitary clan of shapechangers, blame each other for a series of bizarre killings—and the death of Kate’s guardian may be part of the same mystery. Pressured by both sides to find the killer, Kate realizes she’s way out of her league—but she wouldn’t have it any other way.

This edition also includes A Questionable Client and Curran POV!

Dramatized Adaptation is so-so

Here is my opinion, based on listening to the Renee Raudman version too many times to count:
The different voices are great! I love Curran's voice, Jim's, and even Kate's. There are a few like Mahon and Aunt B, their voices just don't match their description, but I can overlook those.
What I have a problem with is the background music. It's like they found the cheapest Open Source music and put it in the background. The sound effects didn't bother me very much. However, the music takes me out of the book so many times I can barely stay in it.
I've got all of the previous version's books with Renee, and I'm not sure I will buy the subsequent books. I hope they fix the music issues, because I would love to continue to collect them.

Love the dramatized version

I really enjoyed listening to the Graphic audio version of the Innkeeper Chronicles, so I was really looking forward to this book! I enjoyed it a lot, but there are a couple areas in the book, in part 3 and 5, where the audio is garbled. Both times it doesn't last too long, but it takes you out of the story and can be confusing to parse. However, the rest of the book is great and well worth the wait.

Magic Bites - amazing graphic audio adaption!

I loved this book and series when I first found it on Kindle during the pandemic. Graphic audio took it to the next level. What I really loved though was the Dr. Doolittle character/actor. GA nailed it beyond even my imagination :)
I'm so excited for the next one!

Good adaptation but slightly disappointing

First off, I am a huge fan of all things IA, and own pretty much everything they’ve written, in all formats. I absolutely loved the Innkeeper Chronicles GA and was so looking forward to Magic Bites. It was good, and I loved Kate, Curran (after a while), Jim and others. But, as others have pointed out, there were numerous times where the dialogue was mixed up with multiple characters speaking at once and over each other in a way that was clearly not intended. Some of the sound effects, especially Kate grunting and groaning, were out of place/over the top and didn’t fit the character IMO. Will try the next one and hope for the best.

Great actors. But….

Ok, they have not fixed the music issue. I thought I could get over it but when something epic is happening and elevator music comes on or it randomly plays a music so loud it startles you. Would be amazing without the music.

One of my favorite series.

Due to my love of these authors, I have purchased both the version read by Renee Raudman and the dramatized version. Of course I love the Raudman version best since she is Kate to me and I wish the spin off series were also read by her, makes me wonder what happen to her. With that said the dramatized version is good. It does bring to life the city of Atlanta and the world around Kate. My only complaint is when they People were talking through the vampires, it was hard to hear the voices as the production made it muffled and far away Plus sometimes the music was a bit loud that it overrode the narration. I loved the ending with Curran’s POV & A Difficult Client. Audible did this with the Clean Sweep series by this author and I also enjoyed that as a dramatized version. With that said I’m glad I read it with Kate Raudman first.

Beginning of a beautiful thing!

This is one of my favorite series. This book is more of the starter, intro book. Not the best of the series but really helps establish the characters and still an entertaining story.

great version!

I really liked this adaptation. If you have already read the book, the only thing that may bother you is the pronunciation of names. This made me want to read the whole series again.

Absolutely AWESOME!!!!!

Don't get me wrong I like Renee Raudman. I've reread the entire series 5 times. However I LOVE the graphic audio version!! PLEASE do them all! I would love to rehear the stories with the new voices and the background sounds as well. I'm already imagining Kate meeting her aunt for the first time. I can't wait!!!!
