About this listen

From the author of the best-selling Sweeney Sister Series and Sweet Tea Tuesdays comes a new novel of passion, intrigue, and redemption.

Ellie Pringle has spent endless hours and countless dollars working with a therapist to remember the lost years of her childhood. She's baffled and more than a little intrigued when the grandmother she hasn't seen in 34 years dies and leaves her a fortune. The time has come to face her past in person. Still reeling from a recent breakup of a long-term relationship, and with nothing to keep her in San Francisco, Ellie packs her meager belongings and boards a plane for the South Carolina Lowcountry.

Standing in the entryway of her grandmother's antebellum home on South Battery Street in Charleston, Ellie faces the first of many ghosts who will soon haunt her. On her first night in the creepy, creaking mansion, as she's perusing the titles in a dusty bookcase, she comes across her deceased mother's leather-bound journal. Her mother's words create more unanswered questions and send her on a quest to find more journals.

As Hurricane Lorene bears down on the South Carolina coast, Ellie encounters Juan Hagood, a handsome architect who has the talent to restore her dilapidated mansion and the charm to mend her broken heart. But as Ellie reads her mother's diaries, they dislodge a stone in the wall that safeguards her memories, causing her world to come crumbling down. Revelations about her childhood lead Ellie on a harrowing journey of discovery that will hold listeners spellbound until the dramatic conclusion.

Best From Ashley

This was a story about a young woman named Ellie who was left a large inheritance from her grandmother whom she barely knew or liked. Yet, in the midst of that, she began a quest on discovering her past and family history with the help of her deceased mother's diary.

I have read and purchased on audible many of Ashley Farley's books and this is the best one. I purchased the audible version and was in the story from beginning to end. There are very few authors that can tell more than show and actually pull it off. Ashley is one of those authors that simply tells the story rather than spending much time on painting the picture and describing the scenery. It kept my attention the entire time and I was actually interested in all of the characters. The book does finish on a cliffhanger so I immediately purchased the sequel Beyond the Garden.

interesting

narrators could have been better. but they weren't irritating as I have found with many southern stories.
Hope there is a book to follow.

Great book

Loved the story. I gave the performance 4 stars because of the kids voice, it was kinda a creepy. The other voices were good.

Finished it in one day

After struggling for a while to find a good that holds my attention, I finally found one! I loved the story and can't wait to read the next one. I do particularly love books about old houses and restorations. It's more of a family drama/mystery rather than a romance. The ending of the book leaves some things unresolved so reading the next book is a must. I'll definitely try other books by this author as well. Narration was good.

What a different outcome

Sisters, twins, Cruel, crazy maternal grandmother. Mother, very ill and neglected by her mother. One twin bereft of memories of the events her early life. The mysteries of her early life discovered from her mother’s journals after she inherits the family home from her dead grandmother,

Not bad....

This audio book was not bad. Some parts were predictable while other places could have been expanded with more detail. All in all, I enjoyed the book.

Loved the book

This book pulled me in from the beginning and held me most of the way through. It was one I couldn't put down. Toward the end though, around the time Ellie found Lia, it got weird. I did not care for the ending. It was like it was rushed. Performance wise good, but... I did not like the mans performance for this book. He seemed talented, but just not a good fit for the character. I WILL read the next one, and I do recommend this bood.
