Hope Scroggs is finally ready to get hitched. After years of sowing her wild oats, the former head cheerleader and homecoming queen has returned to Bramble, Texas, to marry her high school flame. But her perfect wedding plans are stomped to smithereens when her adoring cowboy twosteps down the aisle with someone else. Now Hope is stuck with the one man from her past she can't shake: Colt Lomax, an irresistible bad boy whose sultry kisses are hotter than the Panhandle in August....

Colt lives for freedom and the open road; he never gets attached, never looks back. Still, he can't forget the night of passion he once shared with Bramble's sweetheart - a night he wouldn't mind repeating. So, he piles on the Texas charm to tease the feisty beauty back into his bed, while she tries her darnedest to resist. But something unexpected is about to tie their fates together... and oh, baby, will it ever!

Funny!

Would you consider the audio edition of Make Mine a Bad Boy to be better than the print version?

I haven't read the print version, but I liked the audio version

What did you like best about this story?

Although predictable, the characters were funny and it was easy to become involved with the story

Have you listened to any of Nicole Poole’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have listened to several books by this narrator and I like her work. However, some of the characters are hard to distinguish from others.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, since this was the second book in this series that I listened to, and again, even knowing how it would end, I liked the journey!

Any additional comments?

I liked this series of books enough that I'm looking forward to the next one in the series. I will keep an eye out for this author.

Bad Cowboy...

Make Mine a Bad Boy is book 2 in the Deep in the Heart of Texas series. This is the story of Hope who comes back to Bramble Texas after failing to become a star in Hollywood. She has decided to marry her back up plan (her high school friend) only to find out she has a twin sister that she didn't know about. That same sister has come to town and fallen in love with the the back up plan. So Hope finds herself drowning in selfpitty and thinking what will she do now that her sister is living the life she had dreamed for herself.

Meanwhile, the man Hope has secretly been in love with all of her life (her best friend's brother Colt Lomax) has come back to town and then the fun begins. I found it hard to like either of the main characters. Hope was a loud mouth and Colt was a jerk. They really could not communicate at all so I did not feel the romantic connection. The love story pretty much started in the last two chapters. The rest of the book was them fighting. There were barely any "magic moments".

I was a little disappointed because the first book was so so good that I've listened to it a few times. I don't regret getting this one because I really liked revisiting the secondary characters life and the funny and crazy people of Bramble. It also sets the basis of what will be the third book in the series, Catch me a Cowboy that I am hoping that comes out as an audiobook as soon as possible! Although I did not love this book I will be looking for more Katie Lane books. The first one was promising enough :).

Narration: Nicole Poole did a very good job on this book, just like on the first one. She does the country accent very good and she makes distinct voices for each character which is a very big plus. The only thing that I need to point out that there was a long pause between each chapter. Too long! I found myself looking at the iPhone app several times to see if I had put the sleep mode on and it automatically turned off. But I guess that was not a narrator problem but rather the audiobook producers.

Kept me smiling the whole time

If you could sum up Make Mine a Bad Boy in three words, what would they be?

These characters were just a hoot! I loved the first book in this series and just kept smiling, but this was even funnier! The reader made it even better! I was really glad to see that it was the same reader from the first book and the voices were the same. She is great! I will get every Katie Lane book out there for sure!!!!

Which character – as performed by Nicole Poole – was your favorite?

Sherlene. She was caring, yet you never knew what she would do next. She really made me laugh.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

There is one part in the book when you see Colt and Hope as teenagers and get a real feel for their relationship and how long it has been in the making. I won't give it away, but I did have tears.

Any additional comments?

The town of Bramble is a mess. The people are crazy, but have enough love for each other, their town, the country and of course football to fill the heavens. I wish I could live there. They are just plain good people.

So, so story.

Would you try another book from Katie Lane and/or Nicole Poole?

I would try another book, but would not pay for it. I always try to give an author a chance before making a final decision.

What do you think your next listen will be?

It will not be this author. I have just listened to a short story by Linda Howard.

What does Nicole Poole bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Her ability to sound out the different emotions and personalities of the characters.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

No.

Boring

If you have trouble sleeping this book will put you to sleep in no time. Narrator is excellent, but the story was dragging.

Hope is just plain exhausting

I really enjoyed the first book. Faith was annoying, but Hope is incorrigible. She went through this entire book with extreme cases of delusion and denial. Her stubbornness wasn't endearing, and she was often just mean. I can understand that Hope was very conflicted and dealing with a number of emotions, but she didn't really process or deal with anything until the end. I'm not sure why Colt would want her. Colt had his issues, too, but he seemed more intelligent. Very immature. I loved the wacky townspeople and the narration was excellent.
