About this listen

Your past mistakes are meant to guide you, not define you.

To say Maria’s life started in the worse possible way would be an understatement. Due to this misfortune, she makes the biggest mistake of her life, and it cannot be erased.

She can’t marry without confessing her mistake, and she knows that neither Carter nor Alex would accept her if they knew about it. This plays havoc with her love life. She doesn’t want a marriage based on a lie, but if she confesses her past, there may not be a wedding. Can she tell the man she loves about her mistake? Will he forgive her?

You may have met Carter and Maria in Cody’s Cure, but now they have a story of their own including a new character, Alex. This isn’t part of a series but a single book about Maria, Alex, and Carter’s struggle with her mistake.

Forgiveness!

Yes, forgiving others and oneself is something that most people don’t do often enough. Barbara Goss brings this up very clearly and handles it with all the sensitivity one could wish for in a book.
This story is so beautifully written, showing the human weaknesses so very clearly.
I loved Maria. She comes across as a really strong character, having survived being betrayed by those people in her life whom she should have been able to trust, but she does what she needs to in order to survive and then later, when she finds the love of her life, she tries so hard to come clean about her past and almost loses the best thing and person in her new life – and this is when forgiveness becomes really important to her.
This story has been written with so much compassion that I could easily feel the emotions myself.
And yes, I am most definitely recommending the book as it is a very easy read, interesting and enjoyable.
I read an Advance Reader Copy (ARC) and my review is given voluntarily.
Update 14 May 2023: I have just finished listening to the audiobook version where Christopher Macky narrates the story and brings us his easy-to-listen to voice and acting for our pleasure and enjoyment.

Forgiveness

Wonderful story with strong characters. The narrator was great. Maria has to learn to forgive herself, as God has with her history, that was not all of her fault. She needed to survive and did what she had to do. Her past is sneaking up on her and she must tell the truth. She has two suitors, Carter and Alex, but can she share that information. In order to move forward, she must, and hopes with God's grace, they will understand.

Forgiveness is not easy

Maria didn't know God's love when she was younger after she escaped from her father's house. She didn't realize the full implications of working in a house of ill repute until she met a man she cared for. This story shows how God's forgiveness can wipe the slate clean if we can accept His gift.

Beautiful story

Neither shall I condemn thee what beautiful words of forgiveness. It can be hard to forgive ourselves and accept that anyone could forgive us from certain things. The narration is well done with a pleasant voice. The story is presented well and is believable. I enjoyed it.

Heartwarming story!

So many times in life, it is taken for granted that our past will always follow. In this beautifully written romance, Maria finds out what it is like to be loved unconditionally for who she is. Maria finds herself in terrible situation. She may have killed a man. Running is her best option, and with the help of her friend, she settles in small town with two possible suitors. One is a wonderful man, but just a friend and the other makes her heart sing. But she fears that her past will tarnish any chance she has with either. What she finds out, is through faith and true love, she is seen for herself, not her past. But who does she end up with? Give it a listen, you will find out, feel good and have a warm heart.

Christopher Macky is perfectly cast in this timeless story. His voice is perfect for a historical western romance, and he connects with each of the characters. Each one is easy to distinguish and the voice perfect for the personality. It's a listen that is easy on the ears and wonderfully told.

A story filled with the power of forgiveness!

This is my first Barbara Goss story, and I loved the way she shared with us how Maria overcame abandonment as a child, being robbed of her innocence, and being forced to make terrible decisions just to survive. Along the way Maria is helped by caring people. She even finds love, though not where she expected. The author penned a story filled with the beauty of love and the power of God's forgiveness.
I was gifted the audio version and the narrator, Christopher Macky, did an excellent job.

Love and Friendship

After Maria had spent most of her life eating from trash cans and sleeping on the street, she finds herself working in a brothel just to have a bed and food to eat. But God has a better plan and she escapes her situation. Her escape from the terrible circumstances, finding God through a dear friend, building a new life, finding love and friendship, and secreting the sorrow of her childhood, is an interesting saga. The story of her journey is inspirational. As always I can recommend this book to one and all who like a good romance.

I requested this audiobook from the author and am voluntarily leaving this honest review.
