About this listen

A sweeping Christian fiction epic, Maximus is part mystery, part detective story, and filled with intrigue.

General Maximus is a battle-weary commander of one of Rome's finest legions. When he returns from a long, bloody campaign, he finds himself questioning his life. Word has reached Rome of a man named Jesus, who is causing a stir in faraway Judea. Maximus, disguised as a Jew, is sent to investigate the situation and assess his potential threat to Rome. In this innovative rendering of the story of Christ, we see Jesus from the perspective of an outsider. Stripped of his cultural identity, Maximus is therefore free to ponder whether he can believe Jesus and find a new purpose in his own life.

Loved this book! Seeing the effect Jesus had on one with no real understanding of Jewish religion or culture, was enough to bring tears to my eyes.

Amazing

I only wish they would have included more dialogue with Jesus.
It was great to look at a few of the Romans as compassionate people.
I will always be eternally grateful for the birth and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Excellent Biblical Fiction

I enjoy historical fiction and especially biblical stories like Maximus. The characters are developed so you tend to care about them. We all or most know the story of Christ, however, I’m truly disappointed when the story of Jesus end with his crucifixion - no resurrection? I would have enjoyed what the characters thought and their reaction to this bit of information. Sadly no such luck.
It was still worth the time invested to listen.

Almost excellent
