Bernie Mac
The film, television, and comedy legend tells the hilarious and moving story of how tough love and a sense of humor made him the man he is today
By the tender age of five, Bernie Mac had found his calling: making others laugh. He has since become the star and cocreator of Fox’s hit sitcom The Bernie Mac Show; a stand-up legend; and a hit movie star in Head of State and Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle. Now, this amazing comedian delves deep down inside to retell the poignant and hilarious story of his childhood and the people who helped shape him into the comedian - and the strong and self-reliant man - he is today.
When young Bernie Mac lost his beloved mother to breast cancer, and faced an astounding number of other hardships, he remembered the "Mac-isms" she taught him: You have to meet all of the challenges, big and small. Because how you start is how you finish. If you want a helping hand, look at the end of your arm. These tough-love lessons gave him an inner strength that led him to choose hope over despair and to follow his dreams. Maybe You Never Cry Again is a powerful testament to how a mother’s love made everything possible for Bernie Mac by teaching him to believe in himself.

But this explains the spiritual connection I felt towards him. His depth, strife, strong-willed, compassionate steadfast and most importantly, humble soul & mindset. Such a specific & special human being. (So many parallels to my father, who too wrote his memoire- A Dream Believed, A Dream Achieved).
But outside of that, he was himself, through & through!
Bernie Mac. Now I know why I mourned you. You were real!
He was REAL!

I was originally skeptical because i thought it'd be a book consisting of a bunch or jokes with a few life stories, and I was looking for something a bit more meaningful. Well, The reality is, it's more so Bernie Mac's life story with a few jokes things that make you laugh simply because it's the Mac Man himself narrating.
At first I thought to myself "Man, it's different when it's not a professional narrator. It sounds bad" as Bernie stumbled over a few words, but as the book goes in you begin to not care because of how intriguing the story is. The authenticity of the Mac Man causes you at certain times to think "Man, He's really gone" and forget he's dead because you begin to feel as if you're sitting down with him as he's telling you about himself ad what molded him into the man he is
. After finishing the book I'm glad he narrated it because i doubt you would get the emotion and even the laughs out of it from another person just "reading" his story versus Bernie Mac "telling" his story. With this being my first listened to audiobook, I'm happy I started here.
