About this listen

In Happily Inc, love means never having to say "I do"....

Wedding coordinator Renee Grothen isn’t meant for marriage. Those who can, do. Those who can’t, plan. But she never could have planned on gorgeous, talented thriller writer Jasper Dembenski proposing - a fling, that is. Fun without a future. And the attraction between them is too strong for Renee to resist. Now, she can have her no-wedding cake...and eat it, too.

After years in the military, Jasper is convinced he’s too damaged for relationships. So, a flirtation - and more - with fiery, determined Renee is way too good to pass up...until his flame becomes his muse.

Renee is an expert at averting every crisis. But is she finally ready to leap into the one thing that can never be controlled: love?

Contains foul language and adult situations

Good story and great narration. The cursing was not what I wanted. I had to increase the reading speed to get past the lovemaking scenes.

Okay, but not my favorite Susan Mallery is story..

I usually love Susan Mallery's books. I could barely wait until midnight on the morning od her new releases, but this one was not quite there. It started off a little differently and I thought it would move fast based on the character introductions and their early intimacy. As the story progressed, it just didn't deliver the witty and intriguing story that I felt it promised early on. Jasper was a likable character overall, he had a good heart and you really wanted a love interest who met him emotionally and delivered the type of love and passion that he needed. Renee was not as likeable. She came across as selfish and detached. I liked her mother's background story more. Overall, the story was okay, but it did not hold my interest as much as I had hoped.

Another great

This book follows along with the path of the growing people happy in Happily Inc. I must admit I thought Winn and Jasper would be tighter. He got along so well with her son.
Renee in the past books was a little off setting but true to Mallery the characters worked and I loved the book.
I loved the giant dog wedding.
Can’t wait to find out who is next.

Great book!

Good book to keep you entertained. I like the sweetness of the story, and even though predictable a bit.

Happily Inc Book 5

Automatic purchase author for me. I have read all of Susan Mallery's books since before her Fool's Gold series. Fans of Happily Inc will enjoy this book as a way to catch up with the other residents around town. With that said, I have to admit that this installment to the Happily Inc series was not my favorite. I was so excited that this book was about Jasper falling in love. Jasper is retired military with PTSD and now a successful thriller author. He is a true hero! I could have read on and on about Jasper, his adopted dog, his struggles to write a female character into his current novel and his relationship with the young boy, Hunter . But I just could not get invested in the female heroine, Renee. She is a wedding planner and has a nice circle of female friends around town, but as hard as I tried, I did not develop an interest in her as a person.

As I have started listening to more and more audio books and most of these books in the contemporary romance genre, I just cannot get used to Tanya Eby's voice over for her male characters. I so wish that they would have a male do the male voices so that it was more natural.

Not believable

I liked Jasper and looked forward to his story and evolution. Was also looking forward to learning more about Renee. Of the two, Renee is more messed up. Certainly a candidate for counseling. I found her victim personality sad and not worthy of Jasper. Renee had her moments and ultimately there was a happy ending however I found her struggles silly.

The narrator has a pleasant voice but she makes no effort to distinguish the voices from one another.

I've enjoyed the series as I have Fools Gold but this book is my least favorite.

Not worthy of the rest of the series

While I have enjoyed this series and this author in general, I did not enjoy this one. I didn’t like Renee or find anything about her warm, kind or endearing. It is kind of hard to really enjoy a book when you don’t like one of the main characters. I wanted more and better for Jasper. He knew he was a constant work in progress and was doing so well on his way back to finding his new normal. He had all but given up on himself and believed that he was so broken he would never be “fixed” or “whole” again. And yet, slowly, but surely he found his way back through hard work and perseverence. I wish that all Vets had the same outcome. Then to have him rescue an abused and abandoned dog was truly wonderful. I have a rescue pup and she has changed my life. Even if you don’t have a dog I think the word would be a better place if everyone knew the unconditional sweet love and companionship of a dog. As written in this book, it can be life altering in the most wonderful ways. He was working his way to to the land of the living. Renee was the opposite. She held on to anger, hate, sadness like it was Gorilla glued to her. And she had such rules and restrictions that why anyone would want to befriend her and or be attracted to her was surprising and did not have an ounce of truthfulness to me. Yes, I know it is a book, but still. And then her mother. Really? Falling in love so quickly. I like quirky and kitschy. This wasn’t either. Oh, and Jasper being so okay with Renees crazy and having it all wrapped up so neatly in a few paragraphs. Sorry, but this ruined it for me. I am not sure if I will read the next in the series. If about Renees mom or Wynn I am out. I will listen to other new titles, but am fairly sure I am done with this series. I really wanted to like it.
