Named Grand Lodge of Illinois "Book of the Year" for 2018! This down to earth book by Michael R. Poll provides suggestions and advice on dealing with Lodge and Scottish Rite issues such as Masonic law, Lodge operation, visitors, poor degrees, meals, officer roles, poor attendance, Masonic philosophy and history, the future of Freemasonry, and so much more.
Written in an easy to listen to style with the goal of providing the new or seasoned Mason with useful information to help make their Lodge experience of greater value.

I have been listening to a wonderfully simple, yet very thought-provoking book called “Measured Expectations: The Challenges of Today’s Freemasonry” by Bro. Michael R. Poll.
The opening chapter of the book is difficult to listen to because, quite honestly, the truth does hurt... it stings a lot, actually.
If one has fairly thick skin and is open-minded, I HIGHLY recommend this book. It seriously spoke to me on a VERY personal level. I myself am currently serving my Blue Lodge in my second chair... I am a Senior Warden. I am crash-course learning; some by studying and some by trial and (lots of) error... learning the lessons that will hopefully help me to someday be a Worthy & Well-Qualified, D&TP Worshipful Master of the Lodge I love and am truly privileged to serve.
There are some things in the works that will hopefully move to provide some of the needed engagement that I feel can and will be reached through offering a structured, challenging and rewarding Masonic Education program to our Brothers who are just starting in that NE corner and even those who have passed through the East.
Freemasonry is far from hanging up the collective towel... we are just waiting for that next spark that will again set our collective hearts ablaze with the passion we remember from the night we were Raised.
Please take a few minutes and listen to this excerpt taken from the Audible version. I’d love to hear your thoughts on this. While not easy to hear at times; I think this is one of the most NECESSARY Masonic Works out there during this critical time in our Masonic Existence. This book is outstanding. I am listening to it over and over to take notes.
