About this listen

Devotion to one's teacher is the lifeblood of the Vajrayana path. Because the guru can and will use whatever means it takes to wake us up, this relationship may require us to drop our most deeply held beliefs and expectations. Dzongsar Jamyang Khyentse addresses some of the most misunderstood aspects of this powerful relationship and gives practical advice on making the most of this precious opportunity for transformation. Through stories and classical examples, he shows how to walk the path with eyes wide open, with critical-thinking skills sharpened and equipped to analyze the guru, before taking the leap.

Having the author narrate the book may have not been an option. But not getting someone who could pronounce names & terms correctly does a disservice to the book & reflects poorly on Audible. With the resources on Tibetan language and culture today, even a couch to give the narrator correct pronunciation would have been a great solution since other than this flaw, he did a nice job.

This is not a book for beginning students. There are no explanations of basic concepts or anecdotes about gurus for entertainment. This is a strait talking book about view and thought provoking for any vajrayana student.

Poor pronunciation of Tibetan & dharma terms

Although some pronunciation is incorrect, the book is outstanding. It is easy to listen to again and again.

This is an excellent read as an introduction to the guru - what to look for in a guru, how to assess whether you even want or should have a guru, and I enjoyed the humor sprinkled throughout.

Read for the learning not the performance

Skillfully done with only a few mispronunciations by reader. An amazing rendering of the core principles of the Buddha dharma using at times down and dirty street language. Pretty much touches all essential points.

Rare and beneficial…
