About this listen

Lady Philippa Knolles has loved Captain Thomas "Dash" Dashwell since he first stole a kiss from her on a smuggler's beach near Hastings. Now after what seems like a lifetime of waiting, Pippin is offered a chance to renew her scandalous affair with Dash. But the man from that first heady kiss and the man she rediscovers all these years later are hardly the same.

Tucked away in the back of her closet is a red dress, the one she wore long ago to win his heart....Could it have enough memories left inside it to rekindle a passion she's never forgotten?

Beautiful

I love both characters. To get a better idea of how deep their relationship is, reading the two previous books, or a little bit of the one with Mad Jack when Dash is introduced. I love that the audience doesn't blow off her husband, and belittle their relationship. She honors its importance and the full meaning of it, how much she loved him. This is eluded to in the previous book with Thalia.
Bringing these two back together after so many years is romantic..even if it isn't exactly romantic in how they are brought back together.
Her son tickles me, and I hope he follows his mom's advice.
SPOILER ALERT HERE*** I am glad it was pointed out how he stopped drinking...definite alcoholism...he did it, she wasn't the one who stopped him. It's something one has to do for themselves. Also, how she honored the little boy on Dash's ship long-ago.
I will keep.coming back, even if there are some parts I'll skip.
I love the flashbacks.

Very Romantic

I found this to be a wonderful love story. Exactly what romance novels should be, focused on the relationship of the couple. Everything is in the story else is just background support. I liked the flashbacks for several filled information we did not know from previous books. I liked the point that they were middle aged, because once you are past 30s you do start to reflect on the path less traveled and wonder "What if?". My only issue is I wish there had been a little more about her relationship with Brent. yeah she came to love him but honestly even the best relationships have some flaws. It was a bit hard to understand that she loved them both simultaneously. When I read the previous book, Little Black Gown, I found Brent to be pompous... afterall he DID buy his wife and if he really loved her he would have been more respectful of what she wanted and not have dealt with Dash in the way he did. No the Vicount wanted to possess her and flaunt his victory over Dash. Which in my mind made him despicable. I hated that Pippen did not even write Dash a letter saying Goodbye, she was pretty despicable in her treatment of Dash too. it wasn't necessary to shred his already ripped out heart. In fact, it was like she had two personalities. I wish the author would have touched on more of Pippen's internal struggle when first married because it reads like she just flipped a switch and became someone completely different. sad really, no more playwritings, no more adventures just daily drudgery. If that was emphasized it would make more sense why she left so easily.

I was also not a fan of the cut and paste from the previous book. At the very least these flashbacks could have been fresh to this story simply by changing the pov. I did appreciate the new stories that filled in the younger interactions between them we didn't see.

Anyway, if you can look past
these missing moments you will discover a beautiful & fun love story. ❤️

BEST story I’ve listened in forever

You won’t want to turn this story off. I highly recommend reading it in the series. The build up to Pipa and Dash’s story is well done in the previous stories and you get a new perspective on how events transpired in this book.
I found it terribly sad that they were separated for so long, but it is a fantastic story with even better characters! 5 starts!!!

it was okay

They have my favorite love story from this series, but I don't like the way it jumps back and forth and retells the previous books so much. Overall a good book.

Boyle never disappoints

although it's a continuations of a series, this story can stand alone. boyle gives backstory where needed and, if you read the previous books, it even fills in things that weren't clarified in this tales. it's a lovely continuation of a tale from earlier books and well worth the time. the characters are older but still solidly hero and heroin material.

My favorite in this series!!

I absolutely adore Pippa and Dash’s story. I read this book before it was available on Audible and enjoyed it all the more this go around. Susan D. definitely has a talent to bring a story to life. This series is extremely entertaining. I cannot wait for John and Molly’s story to be written!!

Enthralling storytelling

I loved this story of love, loss and middle age reckonings of past betrayals and disappointments. This was the best of the series. The young lovers' story is told in flashbacks that heighten the pain experienced by the disillusioned middle aged former lovers . The starry eyed Pippin met in previous books is now the widowed Lady Knolls, living on rose tinted memories of her dashing young pirate. Lady Knolls is given the chance to reunite with Capt Dash by his son, supposedly to nurse him back to health, only to find in his place a bitter, foul mouthed, brandy soaked sot. Throw in complications from the younger generation, far more staid and shocked by their elders, and the road to reconciliation is fraught indeed.
This would make a great movie - pirates, adventures, romance and daring and coming into your own even later in life.

Did not finish

This was a huge disappointment after the others in the series The flashbacks were boring and Dash was just not worth having.
