About this listen

A woman's mangled body found on the shoulder of a highway bypass near the small town of Astrick, Oklahoma, is mistakenly identified as 28-year-old Memory Smith. The town is aghast. Was Astrick's favorite daughter murdered or the victim of a grisly hit-and-run?

Baffled by the initial reports, Astrick's Assistant District Attorney and Memory's former bad-boy classmate, David (Mac) McCann, knows exactly where Memory is, and it's not lying dead beside a highway.

While investigating the wild rumor of her death, and several subsequent foiled assaults on Memory, Mac and Memory stumble onto clues from another long-ago questionable death. Can they be connected to the mysterious woman on the highway? Better yet, can Astrick's former hellion and the town's sainted miracle child find true love amid the chaos and confusion of a bumbling kidnapper and a town where everybody lies?

Story was good, easy to follow. Leaves the reader desiring to return to the story. Narrator was a struggle. In trying to do the female voices, they sound mentally impaired. The book was enjoyable. I’d definitely recommend this to a reader looking for a good read, with that element of desire.

Element of desire.

The plot was good. And it kept me interested but I almost gave up on it because of the narrator. First of all the inflections are all off. Sometimes it’s pretty monotonous and the female voices aren’t great. Also there was at least of couple of stumbles that I caught that should have been fixed in editing.

Good plot...

I'm giving this book 4 stars based strictly on the story. This has to be the worst narrator I have ever heard. He has done a great disservice to the author. I don't know how Audible services work between the publisher and the company, but they seriously owe this author a do-over. Between his monotone delivery, oddly timed pauses, and constant mispronunciation of words, it's difficult to get through this one. And you will most definitely not be able to lose yourself in the story. It's a shame because it is in no way the author's fault. The first four chapters were the worst, so if you can make it through those it does get a LITTLE better. But in my opinion, Audible owes this author a complete re-recording with a new narrator. The author deserved better. This book deserved better.

A good story butchered by the narrator...

I rarely write negative reviews, but in this case I had to. It’s like listening to a third grader learn to read; no flow, reading by line, incorrect pronunciation. I’m so distracted I can’t even listen to the story. Pass on this one.

Horrible narrator
