About this listen

He taught me to kill. Murder is in my blood now. It runs through my veins and though I hide the monster I see in the mirror with ink, it doesn't keep him from coming out.

My street name is Mercy, but I never show any. Except for her. I watch Becca, though she doesn't know. She saved me a long time ago; the day my father killed my mother. Her bravery turned her into a target.

My father holds a grudge and knife with the same proficiency, and Becca is the focus of his hatred. And I'm the only monster who can save her.

A Dark Romance Done Right!

Now THIS is how dark romances should be done! We had suspense, tragedy, abuse, true love, obsession, heart ache, you name it and it was in there cranked up by 10. The emotions were so raw and powerful and real, that it was hard to not be overtly attached to the characters. Everyone was well rounded, with depth that we get hints at, but wouldn’t know more unless given their stories, and to be honest, I really want Animal’s story next. That to the side, this was a fun and great read about a scared little boy who meets a loud mouth little girl, is basically saved by her, and from that day forward, their lives are intertwined.

The Darkness just outlines the Love

There are a lot of Dark elements to this novel; Child Abuse, Murder, Mafia elements, Child Abduction and self Mutilation and loathing. With that being said, this is one of the most touching stories of love I have ever read or listened to. I think that it is important that a reader approach this novel with the realization that the dark elements should not be focused on. The real story is about the light at the end of the tunnel of all that darkness. Have Kleenex ready.

⭐️ AN ADDICTIVELY AWESOME LISTEN ⭐️

I picked this wonderfully addictive listen up in Audible’s recent Flash Sale and I’m so so glad I did because this, for me, was exceptional.. and a very memorable listen. Obsessive love, deep devotion and eternal care is a little boy’s way of thanking the little girl who saved his life all those years ago on the day that his abusive Father had planned to kill him. Now Fenix (aka Nix) is a ruthless inked Contract Killer with a skeleton tattoo covering his face and body and he now goes by the name Mercy and his damaged, unbalanced, twisted soul knows he’s not worthy of the one person who has always had his heart.. his long-ago saviour Rebecca Stiles. However, this supremely talented author spins a delicious tale where Waitress/Bartender Becca gets saved by a sexy saviour with a realistic skull painted on his face.. and, during the Bar’s Day of the Dead three day festivities, sparks and sizzles ignite.. and a little girl’s memory is slowly awakened too. A beautiful beginning.. but evil lurks in the shadows and many many secrets will have to be revealed.

Worth a credit? Yes absolutely.. and I’ve already got the next book lined-up ready to play. It’s a beautiful, romantic, tender, heartbreaking, dangerous, twisted tale of beauty and her beast.. but this is no Disney story. There’s sizzling chemistry, sex, danger, splashes of humor, character growth, good secondary characters and a love that shines from every riveting chapter. Perfect dual POV narration by Muffy and Zachary who brought the characters and the many many emotional feels to life.. and delivered an outstanding listen.

Captivating, but...

The story was alluring, but the lack of the character arc for Phoenix was disappointing.

I didn’t want to put the book down, very action packed and I truly enjoyed spending my time listening to it, both narrators were amazing.

The message of the girl wanting to “heal” him and him needing her to save him is actually a harmful message in my opinion (but that’s just my opinion). The proof of love was lacking something. And there was some plot holes.

However, this is still a good read!

Awesome, nothing like the description

This is a great story of healing and a great romance. Loved the characters and just enough action to keep it moving, although I would have loved to see Nix being his badass self even more!

The Anit-hero you will dream about

I do love a good anti-hero story. This was a fantastic read. I had started out with the book but switched with listening and wow. loved the audio and the depth you felt of the main characters through the audio.
Mercy is a hard to relate type of character but there is something under the surface that really intrigues you to find out more. You may find yourself in love with Mercy before the book is over.

Covered in ink.....in the best way

This was my first book from Debra Anastasia and the story really hit home with me. I loved the characters and their depth. Anastasia did an excellent job of portraying good people who had bad things happen to them.

I loved Mercy (Phoenix) and his amazing moral compass. Despite his insanely difficult upbringing, he was such a good person deep down and would die for "his girls" that he saved and protected on a daily basis. The fact that he was covered in tattoos made complete sense when you understood what he had gone through and why he felt more comfortable in his skin that way. I love that this book brings to light the fact that people are always going to be judged by how they look as opposed to who they are and I loved it even more that Mercy's reasons for being the way he was made you think and eventually completely overlook the fact that he was covered in tattoos from head to toe. By the end, you're glad that he is the way he is and would not want him to be any different. People will always be quick to judge, its in our DNA, so I always like a good book or character that has the power to change that unfortunately very human inclination to judge someone based on something only skin deep. I think being able to change the reader's perspective entirely on a character is an excellent ability for a writer to have and I praise Anastasia for that.

Other than a few strange editing issues with the audio (a couple repeated lines and an entire chapter that seemed to jump ahead of the story and then repeated itself later but in a different tone from the reader), the narration was excellent. I am a huge fan of Zachary Webber and once again, he did an awesome job of portraying a very different character than he normally does. I also enjoyed the raw narration from Muffy Newtown and thought she was a solid choice for Becca. I definitely enjoyed this one more than I thought I would. 5 stars.
