Publisher's summary

Felix is a miserable incubus, but he does his best to hide his misery. For the most part. Adopted and rejected by strict Catholics, Felix is ashamed of his body’s needs. Work isn’t much better. He’s a star litigator at his law firm, but hates every second. Oh, and he’s in love with his best friend Chris, who happens to be a fellow attorney, his roomie, and a sexy as sin freshwater merman.

After truth or dare on Halloween loosens their lips in more ways than one, Felix pumps the brakes and challenges them both to a bet. No release for a month, or the loser moves out. Chris agrees with a counterproposal. Felix has to come to terms with being an incubus, otherwise he loses Chris.

Chris’ life is pretty peachy. His estate planning clients are great…mostly. He sees Felix every day, and has the family lake to look forward to every Saturday. But as Felix investigates being an incubus, a few things of his own mer nature come to light, changing his perspective on his family.

Merman Kisses and Starving Incubi is a fluffy and spicy MM paranormal romance featuring the pine-y-est of pining besties to lovers idiots. A sugar-loving incubus that’s not a virgin, thank you very much. And a freshwater merman that may be a touch too obsessed with his long hair. Please check trigger warnings in the author’s note.

Finding who you were meant to be

This quite beautiful and heartbreaking all at the same time. Felix and Chris stumble their way through figuring out what makes them happy and helping Felix figure out his true incubi nature. They have been obliviously in love with each other for years but Felix’s hang-ups about his own nature and lack of any way to learn have hampered them both. A silly bet turns into some life changing realizations that make this story so good! And the narrator TJ Clark does such a good job of bringing these two and the surrounding characters to life. This audio was even better than the book!

Incubus and his Merman Best Friend!

This was a very erotic romance which I appreciated that because it is about an Incubus finding his way. Felix really needed physical touch but at the same time need the real intimacy that deep down he only wanted from Chris. So, this was very sexy while still being very sweet.

Audiobook Narration (7h53m) - TJ Clark - 4 stars
This is my first time listening to this audio narrator and I quite enjoyed his style and delivery. It took me a quick minute to get used to the slower, broken cadence, but a few chapters in and I was immersed in the story, like a merperson to water. I would listen to more of his work.

Story - 4 stars
Merman x Incubus was a pairing I didn't know I needed.

Since it's not explicitly mentioned in the synopsis it is worth mentioning that while Felix and Chris have a closed romantic relationship, their sexual relationship is open - Felix is an incubus and the author doesn't sweep away his nature, but rather tells his story of coming to terms with it after a traumatic and neglectful upbringing.

I really loved the author's world-building and storytelling. So much heat and heart. Felix goes on a journey and I was here for every minute of it. Not only is he ashamed by his incubus nature, but he is deeply unhappy with his professional life and watching him grow and come into his own made for a compelling story. I did find a lot of problems/issues were brought forth throughout the story that were dealt with a bit too easily given their seriousness so they ended up not seeming to be big deals, which didn't serve the narrative well, but I ultimately understood that the author didn't want to drag the reader down with too much angst. It's definitely a fine line.

There was a great cast of secondary characters; Rain, Josh, and Brendon were smoking hot and perfect in drawing Felix out of his shame. I loved how loving and supportive they were. The childhood friend group was fun and equally supportive in their own way. Loch was such a sweetheart and it was so heartwarming how he became friends with Chris and Felix, allowing them to share his lake and create that perfect first date.

I equal parts abhorred and adored the 'No Nut November' bet, the eventual payoff was pretty good, but it was rather ridiculous and nonsensical. I'm also a notoriously hard sell on fated mates, I'm glad this didn't go hard on that front because it would have ruined an otherwise good story for me. I'm also left feeling some kind of way about Chris's parents. I wish they had been more proactive in trying to mend bridges with Felix after he was hurt by their actions (or rather inaction, I guess).

I was given an Audible code and voluntarily wrote an honest review.

Exploring Your True Self

This is a good story of basically exploring your true self and falling in love with your best friend. Both Chris and Felix have kept from being true to who they really are. Following them through this story as they change that and their status with each other made for very interesting reading. I enjoyed listening to the audiobook for this as well. I do suggest speeding it up as the narrator does read a bit slow. It did help to bring even more life into the story though.

I received an ARC and this is my unbiased opinion

Great story and narration

Exploring his true self Felix finds so much about himself and his best friend Chris. Falling in love is so much fun when you can relax and let go.

Spicy! - by Shana W

This is a light, fluffy, fun and spicy read, with romance between the two MCs and lots of steamy scenes with multiple partners. Felix and Chris are so sugary sweet that they're almost too good to be true.  Chris completely supports Felix in his endeavours to be true to himself and what he needs.  They get a very lovely and well deserved HEA. I listened to the audiobook narrated by TJ Clark; he did quite a good job of bringing the story and characters to life, making it even more entertaining.

accepting love and yourself

This story was an enjoyable read and an entertaining listening experience. The narrator brings this sweet, if slightly angsty, story to a purely entertaining level. Find how to accept yourself and your truths and find happiness and true love. Listen to how the narrator helps you feel good and bad feelings.

Loved it!

I love paranormal romances, and one of my favorite parts is seeing how each author explains the world they have created.

This book was fun and intoxicating, and from the first chapter it felt like the author was peeling back a wall for us to peek through. There are explanations when they’re needed but for the most part we learn about the many magical and mystical creatures and their powers and quirks through witnessing them, rather than being told about them.

I loved the way each character grows and accepts themselves throughout the book. I don’t think I’ve ever read a book about an incubus who is ashamed of sex, but it’s a very (human) relatable challenge, coming to accept one’s sexuality.

Must listen Merman/Incubi Romance

Performance: This audiobook is narrated by TJ Clark. I looked through a few of my books and I’m pretty sure this is my first narrated book with him. As per my usual, it takes me a minute to sync up with each new narrator I read. Once I was more familiar with TJ’s intonation and register, I was able to fully sink into his voice. Now I can’t imagine Chris and Felix any other way. TJ’s voice was so distinct with every new character. I truly enjoyed listening to him bring this story to life in a new way for me.

Story: Felix and Chris are adorable! Merman Kisses and Starving Incubi is author Morgan Lysand’s first book. I love best friend to lovers stories and this checked all my boxes for sweet happily ever after. There was some angst and some past history of abuse in it. All of that was interspersed with two guys finding their way to be together, to love each other, and for Felix to love himself. These two MC’s burrowed their way into my heart. I hope we get to see them again some day and some of the lovely guys they introduced us too.

Best Friends to Lovers

Let me just say I really liked the premise of this story. Best friends to lovers is always a good read but this was just a big ol orgy. I know incubi are like sex demons but good grief I was overloaded with all the sexy times. The pact that Felix and Chris had for the entire month was just insane especially if Felix was trying to learn and explore his incubi self. The narrator did a good job...So with the sex scenes (which were a lot) he tried to hard to be extra sensual/sexy with his voice...all in all not too bad. What kept me listening was to see how the pact ended...who would win. I was not too surprised how it ended and I was satisfied with their HEA. I would recommend this if you are good with the MCs having a polyamorous relationship.
