Publisher's summary

Morton "Jacko" Jackman isn't afraid of anything. He's a former Navy SEAL sniper, and he's been in more firefights than most people have had hot meals. Lauren Dare scares the crap out of him.

Gorgeous, talented, and refined, she's the type of woman who could never be interested in a roughneck like him. So he's loved her fiercely in secret, taken her art classes, and kept a watchful but comfortable distance. Until now.

Lauren has finally found a home in Portland, far from her real identity, far from the memories of her mother's death, and outside the reaches of the drugged-out psycho who's already tried to kill her twice. One tiny misstep, a single photograph, shatters it all. She has no choice but to run again, but this time she'll give herself a proper farewell: one night with Jacko.

Their highly charged emotional encounter changes everything. In Jacko's arms there cannot be fear, there can be only pleasure. Anyone wishing her harm will have to pass through him, and Jacko is a hard man to kill.

Another fantastic romance!

I truly enjoyed listening to this audiobook. The author has a great style of writing romantic suspense that just keep you wanting more. In this story we have Lauren, a beautiful artist that has relocated to Portland and Jacko, the once scary pierced and tatted employee of ASI. He has been enthralled by Lauren since they first met, but Jacko has never seen himself as worthy of her so he is pretty silent. The thing he doesn’t understand is that Lauren is not who he thinks she is and is actually on the run from someone who wants her dead.
She’s very careful to stay out of the spotlight, but when she’s attending one of Suzanne Huntington’s art exhibitions which are secretly featuring her art something happens that kicks her flight response into high gear. Jacko ends up driving her home and Lauren decides she wants him to stay. The next morning she pushes him out the door and gets ready to flee this life for a new one, but Jacko catches her in the act and makes her confess. Now the whole team is protecting her and they are going to try to stop whoever is after Lauren. Too bad they didn’t realize there were 2 people after her. Great narration!

SLOW START and a little unrealistic

What does Elizabeth Hart bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

a little humor.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No, with the slow start, I thought I was going to quit reading it. Finalkly, it got better, even though it was unrealistic.

Any additional comments?

Still deciding on the rest of the series.

Awesome!!

I knew Jacko's story would be great and I was not disappointed. I love how he comes out of his comfort zone to be with Lauren. Will be rereading often!!

Almost Great

Pros: Good action, characters and love story.

Cons: To much repeated inner dialogue from female lead.
Narrator is good but after awhile her voice can put you to sleep. I think it would have been a lot better if there was a female and male narrator. I wish authors would do this when they have both POVs. I would be willing to pay more for the book and enjoy it better. This is the only reason it wasn't a 5 star to me.

Great to have the audio to continue the series

Jacko has been a memorable character from the start of the series. He has matured and his relationship with artist Lauren is very sweet and satisfying. Love the continuation of the characters from the Midnight series but they keep in the background, allowing the focus to be on Lauren and Jacko. Good setup for next story.

Good narration, smooth voice with no annoying vocals to take you out of the story.

The narrative was awesome. Great story.

Loved the book, wish it was longer, and more sex scenes. Would love a longer epilogue too. That’s how much I enjoyed it

good but predictable

I love these Harlequin novels but I wish they would stop using the word Cock and Cunt. Penis and Sex is much less vulgar. I have listened to 4 books in the Midnight series and this is the first that seems predictable still juicy but predictable

Midnight Vengeance

This is the first book in the Men of Midnight series. Jacko has been trained as a Navy SEAL and after he got out he went to work for a security outfit and that is where he meets Lauren. That is not her real name and she has a lot of secrets. When he finally sees fit to ask her out she wants to say yes. But her fight or flight kicks in and she tries to run. With his help she is determined to stand to fight. And his team of friends are there to help. The story is short in format so the actual drama is the last part of the book. I enjoyed the audio version. I was able to listen and be involved with the action that they go through.

Too much explaining & repeating things

Too much explaining & repeating things. Played this at 1.45 speed and still was too long because of all the long descriptions of event. Couldn’t wait for it to end so, I forward a few spots where there was so much useless and repetitive writing. Also, a lot of unbelievable events. Narrator is fine. Heroine gets reckless and stupid at the end.
