Publisher's summary

Caught in the explosion of the Hammersmith Mill in London, Bow Street Runner Daniel Swann rushes to help any survivors only to find the mill's owner dead of an apparent gunshot.

Even though the owner's daughter, Agatha Montgomery, mourns his death, it seems there are more than a few people with motive for murder. But Daniel can't take this investigation slow and steady. Instead, he must dig through all the suspects as quickly as he can, because the clock is ticking until his mysterious patronage—and his job as a runner—comes to an abrupt and painful end. It seems to Daniel that, like his earthly father, his heavenly Father has abandoned him to the fates.

Lady Juliette Thorndike is Agatha's bosom friend and has the inside knowledge of the wealthy London ton to be invaluable to Daniel. She should be in a perfect position to help with the case. Still, her instructor in the art of spy craft orders her to stay out of the investigation. But circumstances intervene, dropping her into the middle of the deadly pursuit.

When a dreadful accident ends in another death on the mill floor, Daniel discovers a connection to his murder case—and to his own secret past. Now he and Juliette are in a race to find the killer before his time runs out.

Another great mystery!

Another great story by Erica Vetsch! I thoroughly enjoyed this story. And the fun revelations as they unfolded. I’m very eager for the next book in the series to come out and have preordered it as well. Can’t wait to read more!

Loved it!

So fun. Keep going! My only difficulty is the performance. The poor woman needs to learn how to pronounce words. How about Matt Addis for the next one?

A rare gem! Fresh clean and intriging!

this author is truly gifted. the storyline is fresh and compelling. The authors knowledge of industry details was amazing and the plot was full of unexpected mayhem and murder woven deftly around an unlikely but compelling romance. I read hundreds of books each year and and this will go on my short list of favorites right along with Book 1.

Great 2nd book in this series.

Enjoyed the character development of the central characters, although friend Agatha is irritatingly weak, but she may improve in the next book. The Bow Street Runners and the young scientist were very entertaining. The satisfying and clean budding romance proves that a good story doesn't need "mature themes".
So glad to see that this narrator is being used for the next book in the series, one who doesn't jar one with breathy and dramatic pronunciation and odd accents on many words, supposedly making them "British".
