About this listen

Dad was many things. He was a business owner, a brick mason, a husband, and a father. He was also illiterate.

My dad grew up biracial in the Jim Crow South during the early 1930s, where he struggled to find his identity in a world where he was too Black to be White and too White to be Black.

In Mixed Bloodlines, Octavia Yvonne Webb picks up the mantle of her father’s story, exploring the seemingly insurmountable injustices he suffered as a child of mixed race growing up in a racially separated world. She tells the story of a how a young boy persevered to become resilient enough to bring strength to his family as he navigated the hardships, emotional hurt, and physical pain of a broken life to reveal a spiritual purpose and legacy of light for future generations.

You will hear about:

  • Living and surviving daily obstacles during the era of segregation
  • Racial discrimination and what it means to be denied civil rights
  • Plight of a multicultural family raising a biracial child
  • Self-esteem and self-worth issues and its effect on self-identity
  • Systemic social/racial injustices of that era and our current time
  • Institutional religion versus relational Christian values and its transformative power
  • How reconciliation mends brokenness and leads to a road of peaceful healing

Mixed Bloodline!

This is the story of a young boy who grew up in a difficult time period. He was born to a white mother and black man. He faced not only racism but the challenges that came from being mixed blood during that time in history. I enjoyed the story and the religious aspect as well. The story stresses the importance of God and ones faith. The story is historical and nonfiction based on the writers father's experience growing up in the south and being biracial. I enjoyed the story. It is not a long read/listen and worth the time.
