About this listen

New York Times best-selling author Iyanla Vanzant recounts the last decade of her life and the spiritual lessons learned—from the price of success during her meteoric rise as a TV celebrity on Oprah, the Iyanla TV show (produced by Barbara Walters), to the dissolution of her marriage and her daughter's 15 months of illness and death on Christmas day. Like a phoenix rising from the ashes, Iyanla shares why everything we need to learn is reflected in our relationships and the strength and wisdom she has gained by supporting others in their journeys to make sense out of the puzzle pieces of their lives.

“Written with searing honesty about the pain and history that shaped her, Iyanla has written a book that will infuse you with the hope, strength, and courage you need to turn life’s greatest challenges into blessings.”
CHERYL RICHARDSON, New York Times best-selling author of Take Time for Your Life and co-author of You Can Create an Exceptional Life

“. . . Iyanla radically redefines what it means when ‘life falls apart.’ This nourishing and healing book teaches the most necessary lesson of all: Trust in the innate wholeness of the human heart and spirit.”

Beautiful and masterfully written. Will add this to the list of books I use with my clients in therapy.

I think the book was wonderfully honest and deeply personal. There are messages for all women but most especially black women. I am certain I will need to come back and listen when I am in a better space to receive those messages.

Incredibly honest

loved the transparency, and I fully understand as a mother and women fighting battles daily, not living your truth and purpose

My best friend recommended this book but I was skeptical. I was tired of reading non-substantive “self-help” books. But I trust her and thought I’d at least listen to the sample. Well...I wanted more!! This is an excellent, thought provoking, deeply personal story of a painful, heartfelt and uplifting journey. I dare say there are commonalities that many women share. Thank you Iyanla for being honest and courageous enough to share your story and to allow others the possibility of freeing themselves.

This book is such a gidt to my journey called life. I would have every mother and daughter read it. It gave me a definition for death and God that I could understand with a clarity I never had before. I now schedule a time once a month to do a special activity with my children because memory making is essential for children young or old. Thank you Ms. Vanzant for sharing so much of your intimate experiences in life!

Lifechanging

Loved this book. Iyanla is the mother, aunt, best friend, sister, grandmother you wish you hand. Her honesty, authenticity and courage are well documented in this book. It is a must listen. Only thing missing is more about her other children. Perhaps another book she eventually writes will shed more on that.

life changing and life affirming
