About this listen

A decades-old case. A charismatic gumshoe. A sinister don.

Alfred Favero, senior analyst with the IRS, shouldn’t have muddled the timeline. But curiosity got the better of him.

There was killing and a cat involved, too, but he’d rather not talk about that. Suffice it to say, a mafia prince is dead, and Alfred is on the run through time with a wrongly accused detective.

To unmask the men framing his new friend, he’ll tangle with New York City’s most sinister criminals. It’ll take all of his knowledge and investigations across multiple timelines to get to the bottom of it, before he finds himself sleeping with the fishes.

Note: No pets are harmed in this book. The cat definitely does not die.

I love these!

This is the ninth book I’ve read/listened to by this author and I would listen to anything she writes!! I’ve listened to five of the Time Traveling Taxman and some of her other works. Her writing style varies and she covers several genres. Each one is exceptionally well done.
In this book, Alfred uses the time machine again. Realizing he messed up, he tries to keep it a secret from Nancy. That of course, does not go so well. Once again, we are treated to hilarity, thanks to Alfred’s social awkwardness, sense of right and wrong, and blossoming relationship with Nancy.

This is the fifth book I’ve listened to by this narrator ( John Carter Aimone ) and he is Alfred! I love his performances! He enhances the witty writing with just the right amount of everything. I especially love his portrayal of Alfred when he knows he’s in trouble.

There are no explicit sex scenes, excessive violence or swearing.

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and voluntarily left this unbiased review.

A Real Boy

This is probably the most traditional type of time travel story: guy goes back in time to right a wrong, the world is changed for the better. Except for Alfred, who has promised Nancy he won’t use the time travel device, doing that without telling her breaks the trust between them. Can love flourish where there is no trust?

Alfred is coming along nicely as a Real Boy, instead of just an introverted, OCD tax analyst for the IRS. I have enjoyed tracking his progress into adulthood, and admire Nancy’s deft touch in his development.

Loved it.

Takes off a little slow, but once you start really listening the laughter begins. I enjoy Rachel Fords Audiobooks, and John Carter Aimone does a remarkable job of Narration.

Enjoyable continuation of the series

Mob Bosses & Tax Losses (Time Travelling Taxman Book 5), my seventh read from author Rachel Ford. This book is so well-written & enjoyable. I was given an Audible copy of this book & am voluntarily reading & reviewing it. John Carter Aimone’s talented narration adds to the book's enjoyment. I look forward to the next book in the series. Oooo, Alfred's in trouble now...

Our hero believes in justice, strongly. So we he discovers an injustice, the temptation to fix it is overwhelming. If only he could go back in time...

This is book five of the series. There are some references to the previous story, but overall it stands up just fine on its own, so feel free to start here if you like.

This is a light science fiction novel with a heavy dose of dry humor. After all, what would you expect when the hero how considers taxman as one of the pillars of society? The story is very well written and easy to read, but the plot has plenty of twists and turns that keep the reader guessing. The characters are also fantastic and the wonderful (and often humorous) interactions between them are always enjoyable. One minor warning is that this book does end on a slight cliffhanger, but nothing major. Overall, a fun read as always.

Highly recommended.

My review is based on the audio book version of the story.

I received an ARC from StoryOrigin for review purposes.

Great entry in the time traveling taxman series

Alfred and Nancy are back in a new adventure. As expected this story delivers on mystery, danger and laughs. Rachel Ford has written another great entry in the time traveling taxman adventures. Its nice to see the couple utilizing the time machine to go back to 1940 to investigate a crooked cop. It had that film noir feel. Great read and narrator did a great job. This ending was exactly what I hoped for. I can not wait to read the next adventure.

Taxman

Another great book and performance. The next chapter in the series with more to come I hope. There are a couple of loose ends that need to be tied up in the next edition. Keep the books coming.

Curiosity gets the Taxman in trouble - great fun

This audio was gifted to me by the author and this is my honest and unsolicited review.

This was my first encounter with the Time Travelling Taxman and although this is the fifth book in the series, it can stand alone. The start was slow. Fans of Rachel Ford would probably enjoy the introduction of Fluff, AKA Satan, Nance's ginger kitten and the office banter. I find office banter boring and by chapter 4, I was ready to stop listening. Only the fact that I was doing just as boring housework, kept me listening. So glad I did. I thoroughly enjoyed this audio experience, the complexities of the plot, the snarky humour and some laugh out loud moments. The blurb sets the scene.

The narrator, John Carter Aimone has the perfect voice for the rather introverted, socially awkward Alfred Favero. In fact Alfred so lacks empathy and insight that I wondered if he is on the spectrum.

Spoiler alert!

Mob Bosses and Tax Losses was the catchy title Alfred Favero called his presentation. Alfred, a senior analyst with the IRS, was reviewing past IRS triumphs. While doing extensive research of reports and pictures of the 1940 Tomasi cold case, the facts didn't add up. Alfred believed that the detective, Ray Larino, was framed. This opinion was poorly received by Alfred's audience.

Nance was away in Hollywood watching a movie production as a guest of one of the actors. Nance would never know if he used the time travelling device, So Alfred, convinced he is correct, nipped back in time, just to observe the take down. Alfred should not have done that, inadvertently he muddled the time lines. Alfred flees February 1940 leaving the mafia prince, Fat Sal, (who lived a long and wicked life in the original time line) dead, Satan is safe and Ray is on the lam across time. Nance and Alfred had agreed not to use the Space-Time device unless in an emergency. Worse still, Alfred lies to Nance. How can a relationship last when there is no trust?
