About this listen

For young single women, every night is Ladies' Night. For Brett Paesel and her friends, Friday happy hour is all they get, if they can wrangle the babysitting. Like most mommies, they support each other through pregnancies, sleep deprivation, and the need to talk about it all. Instead of meeting at the playground, they convene at the local watering hole while sipping Black and Tans and flirting with the cute bartender.

With a poignant voice and a fresh style that makes this memoir read like the best women's fiction, Paesel navigates mommyhood in all its forms: the ecstatic, the terrifying, the tedious, the hilarious, the trascendental, and the sticky.

Paesel's laugh-out-loud perspective will appeal to all women who are braving the new world of motherhood, where the secret question on their minds at playgroup is "When is it too early to start drinking?"

Critic reviews

"This is Seinfeld but raunchy and L.A. with a full cast of potty-mouthed moms. No wonder it's already optioned by HBO." (Publishers Weekly)
"Funny and silly and true. I mean, I'm not a mother, and to be honest I don't drink, but I can tell you that this book is better than a giant bong hit. And I'm not even high right now." (Sarah Silverman)

This is a funny, witty book about motherhood. It's a refreshing change from fuzzy bunnies and picture perfect mornings, but still presents the joys along with the very funny challenges.

I enjoyed this book...there was a lot to relate to. I can recommend this one...If there is a down side, it's that from about 3/4 of the way through it gets draggy. It could have ended sooner without taking away from the book.

Finally a book about being a mother that tells it like it is! I too have sat in Mommy & me groups, wondering if anyone can talk about anything other than what their kids are doing. It made me laugh out loud so many times and talk about the topics that are never talked about with friends. A thoroughly enjoyable read, I intend to buy it for all of my mom friends when their birthdays come around. I still want to meet "Mommies who Drink"!

Great narration - Brett's voice is pleasant to listen to. I'm a new mom and I enjoyed all 8+ hours of this audio file as it made me laugh, gave me insights to the future as well as inspiration.

Entertaining and uplifting

I heard some nuance of all of my friends in each of these characters and a good number of the events, which only made the funny parts funnier. It's not life altering or side splitting, but it IS funny, well written and I teared up at the end.

Goofy, yet surprisingly gripping

I don't have kids and I so didn't get it. My mistake and my waste of my audio book credit.
