About this listen

"Jackson’s characters and their heart-wrenching story linger long after the final page, urging readers to advocate for those who are disenfranchised and forgotten by society and the system." (Publishers Weekly, "An Anti-Racist Children's and YA Reading List")

From the critically acclaimed author of Allegedly, Tiffany D. Jackson, comes a gripping new novel about the mystery of one teenage girl’s disappearance and the traumatic effects of the truth.

Monday Charles is missing, and only Claudia seems to notice. Claudia and Monday have always been inseparable - more sisters than friends. So when Monday doesn’t turn up for the first day of school, Claudia’s worried.

When she doesn’t show for the second day, or second week, Claudia knows that something is wrong. Monday wouldn’t just leave her to endure tests and bullies alone. Not after last year’s rumors and not with her grades on the line. Now, Claudia needs her best - and only - friend more than ever. But Monday’s mother refuses to give Claudia a straight answer, and Monday’s sister April is even less help.

As Claudia digs deeper into her friend’s disappearance, she discovers that no one seems to remember the last time they saw Monday. How can a teenage girl just vanish without anyone noticing that she’s gone?

I listen on my way to work, while at work, and driving home. I would pause to make phone calls at work or at lunch, and to even think about whats going to happen and put 2 and 2 together. I loved it

I felt like a detective

This was a really good read - very well-written. It was suspenseful without being scary or creepy and I loved the very unexpected “twist”. I didn’t care for the narrator, however. Her inflections were odd at times. Still, I recommend this book.

Great read!

I would have preferred it read by a person with a little more soul but the story was to good for me to deny it was a great read

From beginning to the end, it made me smile, cry, and laugh, and jerked at my heart strings. The book, Claudia and Mondays relationship gave me all the feels. You never know what someone is going through, and you'll never know that your presence gives peace to those in storms.

Absolutely loved it!

It has been a long time since I read a good book! From the narration to the main character and the plot, this story kept me listening. The author has a true talent in making words seem like melodies from a song. She uses colors to describe the characters' moods and her description of the characters in the story are rich and vivid. There is an incredible dance with time, an interweaving between the past and the present! Towards the end of the book, one is surprised and the author leaves the reader wanting more. . . AWESOME!

I read a LOT of YA/Teen fiction and I loved Jackson's first book. Given how much I read within this genre, I did NOT see the ending coming at ALL! For ME to be shocked with a book, you KNOW it's well-written. Read this! Now! Fantastic narrator, fantastic author, fantastic story!

Fantastic narrator, author, and story!

I didn't see the ending coming, it was a great twist...
I got a little confused with the before and after... now knowing what I know I feel like I need to go back and listen again, just to have a clearer understanding of what was happening and when. The overall story is one that needs to be told again and again... we're losing our sense of community as generations pass...this story is a reminder of how important it is for us not to.

I enjoyed it

Very Hitchcockian. Like A Lady Vanishes but with 13 year-old girls and a painful meditation on our broken child protective system.

Outstanding thriller
