About this listen

There is no such thing as a free lunch, but it takes Josh Redmont a while to figure that out. The first check arrived when Josh was 27, $1,000, issued by "United States Agent" through an unnamed bank with an indeterminate address in Washington, D.C. The checks continued to arrive once a month, even when Josh changed addresses, with nary an explanation or a peep from the IRS. Seven years later, as he hastens to meet his family for a summer vacation, Josh is approached by a smiling stranger who greets him with, "I am from United States Agent." Dumbstruck, Josh feigns ignorance until he hears the words, "You are now active." Westlake fans will revel in his trademark swift pacing, meaty secondary characters, and tongue in cheek style.©2003 Donald Westlake (P)2003 Books on Tape, Inc. Espionage Suspense

One of his best

Classic Donald Westlake with twists, turns, and humor. I almost didn't read this because of some low reviews, I'm so glad I did.

Poor

You must have better things to do with your time. I finished it and then wondered why.

stupid

Looked like a good book from the synopsis - was the wrong. How could a main character be so stupid and be able to dress himself - uses every sterotype imaginable - The reader sounded like he was reading a Dr Seuss book (maybe that is what it is). I finished listening to it in morbid fascination - just to see if it could get worse - it did.

It is impossible to identify with any of the characters - Seemed like the author was trying to write a comedy book - problem he has no sense of humor
