About this listen

Blending supernatural intrigue with existential mystery, MORI is a haunting story of vanished friends, cryptic messages, and the fragile boundary between reality and the unknown.

When a group of friends vanishes without a trace, all that remains is a logbook kept by a troubled man suspected of their disappearance.

Mori’s entries reveal a man haunted by his past, numbing himself with alcohol and regret until a voice calls to him from “across the Cosmic Gulf.” The voice speaks of a missing woman and a mystery only Mori can solve. Terrified he’s losing his grip on reality, Mori embarks on an otherworldly investigation through the streets of modern Los Angeles, unraveling cryptic messages, inexplicable phenomena, and his own fraying sense of self.

Drawn into his quest are his enigmatic neighbor—a radiant yet troubled woman—and her eclectic group of young friends. Each has their own reasons for joining Mori’s strange odyssey, but none are prepared for the dark truths they uncover. Their journey leads to a labyrinthine world of high strangeness, where time bends, the boundaries of reality blur, and an unfathomable entity seems to watch their every move.

At the heart of it all lies a sinister mystery: an elusive figure known only as The LA Lurker. But what begins as a search for missing persons spirals into a confrontation with a force far greater—and darker—than anyone imagined.

Haruki Murakami + Koontz + Samuel L. Jackson

This book is a combination of Samuel L. Jackson (action packed MFer), Dean Koontz (witty monologue) inside of a Haruki Murakami drug-induced dream world. A fun ride with great narrators, The ending did feel rushed but maybe that was on purpose.

Wonderfully Weird

You'll either fall into the story, or you won't. Mori is insufferable in many ways, but I still couldn't help but follow his story and cheer him on. I am eager to hear the next book in this series.

I loved everything about this book

I'm not quite sure how to review this, other than to say this is one of my favorite books of all time. I didn't want to waste a second of it. If you are at all intrigued by the book description, don't mind some language (I personally was in hysterics when a mysterious entity "keeps calling him a MF-er for no reason", If you thrive on character growth, redemption, alternative realms and the power of friendship...I think you will really enjoy this. I was elated when I saw there will be a book two, because I truly adore these characters. Thank you, for this wonderful gift.
