About this listen
Based on the wildly popular Instagram account @CrazyJewishMom, Kate Siegel's essay collection is about life with the woman who redefined the term helicopter mom.
There is nothing more wonderful than a mother's love. There is also nothing more annoying. Who else can proudly insist that you're perfect while simultaneously making you question every career, fashion, and relationship decision you have ever made?
No one understands the delicate mother-daughter dynamic better than Kate Siegel - her own mother drove her so crazy that she decided to broadcast their hilarious conversations on Instagram. Soon hundreds of thousands of people were following their daily text exchanges, eager to see what outrageous thing Kate's mom would do next.
Now, in Mother, Can You Not?, Kate pays tribute to the woman whose helicopter parenting may make your mom look like Mother Teresa. If fans think Kate's mom's texts are insane, they will laugh out loud at the anecdotes her daughter shares in this collection. From embarrassing moments (like her mother's surprise early morning visit, catching Kate in bed with her crush) to outrageous stories (such as the time she moved cross country to be near Kate's college) to hilarious mantras ("NO STD TEST, YOU WON'T BE GETTING SEXED!"), Mother, Can You Not? lovingly lampoons the lengths to which our mothers will go to better our lives (even if it feels like they're ruining them in the process).

Bernadette Fox is notorious. To her Microsoft-guru husband, she's a fearlessly opinionated partner; to fellow private-school mothers in Seattle, she's a disgrace; to design mavens, she's a revolutionary architect, and to 15-year-old Bee, she is a best friend and, simply, Mom.
Then Bernadette disappears. It began when Bee aced her report card and claimed her promised reward: a family trip to Antarctica. But Bernadette's intensifying allergy to Seattle - and people in general - has made her so agoraphobic that a virtual assistant in India now runs her most basic errands.

Mrs. Sookie Poole of Point Clear, Alabama, has just married off the last of her daughters and is looking forward to relaxing and perhaps traveling with her husband, Earle. The only thing left to contend with is her mother, the formidable Lenore Simmons Krackenberry. Lenore may be a lot of fun for other people, but is, for the most part, an overbearing presence for her daughter. Then one day, quite by accident, Sookie discovers a secret about her mother's past that knocks her for a loop and suddenly calls into question everything she ever thought she knew about herself, her family, and her future.

Story
Part memoir and part how-not-to guide, The Wrong End of the Table is everything you wanted to know about Arabs but were afraid to ask, with chapters such as “Tattoos and Other National Security Risks,” “You Can’t Blame Everything on Your Period; Sometimes You’re Going to Be a Crazy Bitch: and Other Advice from Mom,” and even an open letter to Trump. This is the story of every American outsider on a path to find themselves in a country of beautiful diversity.

"You'll change your mind." That's what everyone says to Jen Kirkman - and countless women like her - when she confesses she doesn't plan to have children. But you know what? It's hard enough to be an adult. You have to dress yourself and pay bills and remember to buy birthday gifts. You have to drive and get annual physicals and tip for good service. Some adults take on the added burden of caring for a tiny human being with no language skills or bladder control.

Story
Something was nagging Marina Shifrin. As a freshly minted adult with student loan payments and a “real” job she hated that paid her enough to get by if she also worked two other jobs, something needed to change. Marina and her friend each made lists of 30 things they’d do before the age of 30. The first thing on Marina’s list was, “Quit My Shitty Job”. So she did, and just like that the List powered her through her twenties. Told with humor and heart, 30 Before 30 will entertain, motivate, and challenge listeners to get out of their comfort zones and live their best lives.

Unfiltered. Unapologetic. Older, but not wiser, Lancaster goes back to basics in this hilarious essay collection about everything from taking community policing classes to accidentally getting high with her waiter after a fancy dinner. These are the tales she'd tell if she met you in a bar... if she weren't too lazy to put on pants and go to a bar. Offering advice ranging from how to remain happily married to a man who refuses to blow his damn nose already to not creating An Incident at the cheese counter during an attempt at Whole30, she's you, only louder.

Jaime Primak Sullivan, a Jersey-bred, tough-as-nails PR maven - and unlikely transplant in an upscale suburb of Birmingham, Alabama - has spent her entire life crossing the line: whether she's pushing the boundaries of what proper Southern ladies consider to be "polite behavior" or literally traversing the Mason-Dixon line in the name of love. She isn't afraid to say what everyone is thinking when it comes to love, sex, friendship, and many other topics that are all too often sugar-coated in polite Southern company.

Story
One of the funniest and most poignant books ever written about a mental illness, Agorafabulous! is a hilarious, raw, and unforgettable account of how a terrified young woman, literally trapped by her own imagination, evolved into a (relatively) high-functioning professional smartass. Down to earth and seriously funny, Benincasa's no-holds-barred revelations offer listeners the politically incorrect hilarity they heartily crave, yet is so often missing from your typical, weepy, and redemptive personal memoir.

Hilarious and Heartwarming!
I have been following the #crazyjewishmom account for awhile now and it provides me and my own mother with daily laughs and relatable posts! I have been patiently waiting for this book to finally come out and now that it has I am so glad I got it on audio! I laughed so hard while listening to this and couldn't help but relate to almost every chapter (except my mother is Polish). This is a 5-star book and I recommend it to anyone!

Mommie Nearest
Kim Friedman knows she's evolved past helicopter mom--she is, in her own words, a drone mom. Her daughter Kate has crafted a comic gem here, but it goes beyond genre. As the outrageous anecdotes accumulate we find ourselves drawn into an affectionate and telling dual biography--a history of an epic mother-daughter odyssey first outlined in Kate's Instagram account @CrazyJewishMom. Mother Can You NOT? is fully present in the audible version--the bonus is hearing both Kate and Kim's voices between chapters.

Loved it all!
When I started looking at buying this book I had the decision whether to buy a Kindle copy or the Audible copy. I am so glad that I bought the Audible copy! Getting to hear Kate and her mother read this made the experience so much more rich and telling than it would've been seeing the words in m black-and-white. I would fully recommend this book to anybody who is wanting to have a few laughs.

Fun and weirdly inspirational
A couple really great lol moments. Short stories that any woman can relate to on some level, or anyone that's ever been in an awkward position, or anyone with a mom, really. Some stories are just ridiculous and some make you think while, of course, still being funny. Recommended for an easy, fun read by the beach or on a stressful commute.

Everything I was hoping it would be and more!
This book is SO funny and has me laughing embarrassingly loud in public at all times. I love everything about it. Kate and Kim are hilarious reading it together and the writing is so clever, smart, and witty. If only it didn't have to end! It's official. I need to be best friends with Kate and her #CrazyJewishMom.

Loved it
I have followed @crazyjewishmom on Instagram for a while and was excited to hear that both Kate and Kim would be narrating. I've already listened to the whole book and feel lucky that I got to peer into some inner workings of their relationship. Kate has a great narrative voice and I'm sure we'll be seeing more great things from her in the future.
