About this listen

The #1 New York Times bestselling author of How Stella Got Her Groove Back and Waiting To Exhale is back with the inspiring story of a woman who shakes things up in her life to find greater meaning.

In I Almost Forgot About You, Dr. Georgia Young's wonderful life--great friends, family, and successful career--aren't enough to keep her from feeling stuck and restless. When she decides to make some major changes in her life, including quitting her job as an optometrist and moving house, she finds herself on a wild journey that may or may not include a second chance at love. Georgia’s bravery reminds us that it’s never too late to become the person you want to be, and that taking chances, with your life and your heart, are always worthwhile.

Big-hearted, genuine, and universal, I Almost Forgot About You shows what can happen when you face your fears, take a chance, and open yourself up to life, love, and the possibility of a new direction. It’s everything you’ve always loved about Terry McMillan.

Critic reviews

"McMillan is a gifted storyteller… The cast of characters enriches the narrative, bringing nuance and clarity to scenes and moving the plot along…. Georgia’s story reminds readers who have clocked a lot of living that it’s never too late to reconnect and reflect on the past as they craft the future they want."Fort Worth Star Telegram

"The ripple effects from Terry McMillan’s breakthrough in contemporary African-American fiction still influence our daily lives... [I Almost Forgot About You is] much in the same vein of McMillan’s other novels that track Black women’s journeys through self-discovery."—BLAC Detroit

"McMillan is a master at her craft. Without a doubt, this book will be a hit with anyone who feels stuck in life and is ready to make a move. McMillan has done it again. Get this book and read about Georgia’s journey. This is another book that should be on everyone’s reading list."—The Baton Rouge Advocate

This book held my interest because of the story but it was a hard fight not to quite in the first five minutes due to the very unsuitable narrator.

Cute story, HORRIBLE Narrator

This novel did amazing things for my spirit. It transported me to times of great loves, bad loves and in between loves. Most important it reminded me that we can do anything we desire, no matter the phase in our life we find ourselves; reinvention is possible . Just start and don’t stop until you’ve finished.

If you could sum up I Almost Forgot About You in three words, what would they be?

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Terry McMillan?

Anyone else who has read audio books before. I like it when authors read their own books, but Ms. McMillan's voice was monotone and it was difficult to distinguish who was speaking when there were conversations between two or more characters.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No

Any additional comments?

I enjoyed the book overall, it was just hard to listen to. Perhaps in Paperback, it would have been better.

Good Book, Not so great audio

First, much has been said regarding McMillan's narrations. I thought it was great except beginning with the second half where all the voices sound alike and it gets confusing, especially since McMillan has a very, very masculine voice. Transsexual, possibly?

The storytelling was great, just like in the two movies Terry is famous for. I enjoyed it.

Fun Listen

Only gave this story a 4 star because although I am 55 years old, I did not agree with the main character's decision to look up her old boyfriends, but I kept reading, and I LOVED IT!

Loved It!

Great time to just relax and meet with an old friend. This felt like an ongoing 'girl talk session!'

Very cool book about life and what it brings you and you don't have to stay on the same course. You can jump tracks and be happy in another direction.

Really enjoyed this book

I wish she would leave the reading of her books to someone else...it most sound just like she's reading it....but definitely not performing it.

I love Terry, but...
