Publisher's summary

You’re one of the lucky ones - you lived through the global pandemic that eradicated seven billion people. You survived civilization’s collapse and the unspeakable atrocities committed by desperate people.

Now it’s two years later...and you’re still alive.

So are two intriguing groups of survivors living in close proximity on the Florida coast. The first, a harmonious community of highly intelligent people who reside on a former island paradise; they are determined to create sustainable quality of life. The other, camping in a Costco warehouse on the nearby mainland, a ruthless tribe of organized raiders who will stop at nothing to provide for their own.

Not only must they endure hardships and hunger in their ravaged world, fate seems hell-bent to crush them all as a monster hurricane seethes in the Atlantic.

Fans of Stephen King’s The Stand will love these novels. Intricately plotted, superbly paced, and brought to life by fully developed protagonists, quirky supporting characters (some you will recognize from the previous books), and charming villains, the Troop of Shadows Chronicles is a tour de force. It is the unfolding story of the greatest threat humanity has ever faced, and is populated with some of the most entertaining people you will ever meet.

Good Place to Stop Reading the Series

Nicki Huntsman Smith's “Moving with the Sun” is a departure from her previous works, is an intriguing addition to her existing series. The audiobook, which introduces readers to an entirely new storyline within the same universe, exhibits excellent pacing and character development.

Unfortunately, the book does lean heavily into the hard woman, soft man trope, which may leave some readers feeling a bit weary. While this dynamic can be compelling when used judiciously, its overuse can sometimes lead to predictability and one-dimensional characterizations. In this sense, the story may feel somewhat formulaic, particularly for those familiar with Smith's previous works.

What sets this book apart from its predecessors is its complete departure in terms of storyline. Smith takes a risk by exploring new narrative avenues within the same fictional world. While this change breathes fresh air into the series, it may not be universally well-received. Long-time fans of the series might find this departure disorienting, as it diverges significantly from the established plotlines and themes.

Nicki Huntsman Smith's audiobook offers excellent pacing and character development, which are the hallmark of her writing. However, the heavy reliance on the hard woman, soft man trope can be a drawback for some readers. “Moving with the Sun” is a complete departure from the first two books in the series, establishing a new storyline within the same world. While the pacing and writing are average, this book is a good place to stop reading this series.

A great addition to the series

I really enjoyed this, the third book in the Troop of Shadows series. the story takes place on Jupiter Island, FL. The various characters fit well in the theme of these books. As usual, it is difficult to put down this novel, and the suspense keeps up a reader's interest from start to finish
You will enjoy this story !!
