Publisher's summary

Mr. Darcy's intimate diary tells us of his entanglements with women, his dangerous friendship with Byron, his daily life in Georgian London, his mercurial mood swings calmed only by fisticuffs at Jackson's - and his vain struggles to conquer his longing for Elizabeth Bennet.

For the first time we discover what really happened between his sister and the dastardly Wickham. How did he distract his friend Bingley from pining for his beloved Jane? Why did he propose to another young woman? Only to his diary does he tell his true story. At last we see Darcy as he really is; and, beneath his polite facade, we find a sensitive, private and passionate man.

Do not listen if you are a P &P fan!

This is not the Darcy that Jane Austen wrote of. It’s terrible. Do not recommend! I hate it!

The narrator was perfect for Darcy and I found the way it was written intriguing. 5 stars!

Very worth a read

This is my favorite version of the story from Mr Darcy's perspective, and I usually listen to it after I finish Pride and Prejudice. It's not Austen, and it does have a very uncomfortable scene early on, but other than that I love it.

Swoon over the voice…

His voice!! And how the story of Price and Prejudice is from Mr Darcy’s point of view. Staying true to the original.

Interesting Idea

I wasn't sure about buying this and while listening had conflicted emotions about Mr. Darcy as presented daily in his diary. He is a typical wealthy man of leisure of that era, who hunts, rides, boxes, shoots, and even wenches occasionally. I didn't like the weak side of him as shown by his dealings with villains such as Mr. Wickham. But I did enjoy his continual wrestling with his attraction for Elizabeth--which he berated himself with daily.

The diary follows the book perfectly and at last we get a glimpse of the lives of the other characters in P&P, which is fun.

The narrator was David Rintoul who was Mr. Darcy in an early BBC performance and had the right touch of haughtiness.

Bottom line? I'm glad that I got it and listened to it.

A diary

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

Only if they like reading diary formats.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

I would have written it in a narrative text format rather than a diary. I felt because it was a diary it was was lacking details with some entries or missing the heart of events.

Have you listened to any of David Rintoul’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No I haven't but what can I say about Mr Darcy himself. I could just picture him as Mr Darcy reading this 30 years after it was written. If you loved David's portrayal of Mr Darcy in BBC's 1980 production of Pride and Prejudice you will love listening to him read this. Even though there is more maturity in is voice than when he portrayed Mr Darcy he reads it with the same intonation and feeling as he did in 1980.
I wonder what he was thinking when he read some of the diary entries, probably there's no way Mr Darcy would have done that or would it have been wow, more of the true side to Mr Darcy.

Inside Darcy's head

This is an good listen for all Pride and Prejudice fans although it is not my favorite version of the story told from Darcy's point of view. The narrator was quite good but I wasn't sure I liked the author's interpretation of the character.

It's pretty good

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would recommend it especially for P&J fans. It gives Darcy view on the Bennetts and all. All in all this is worth the read but not the best I've read on Darcy's view point.

What other book might you compare Mr Darcy's Diary to and why?

It is good but not the best that I've read from Darcy's view. Pamela Aidan's "A Novel of Fitzwilliam Darcy Gentleman" is better. In Darcy's Diary Georgiana is rape, I did not like that part but in Aidan's she isn't but saved just in time.

What about David Rintoul’s performance did you like?

Yes I liked the narrartor voice and tone.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It was more negative than I like but it did have a laugh or two and a few tears too.
