About this listen

Mr. Mani is a deeply affecting six-generation family saga, extending from 19th-century Greece and Poland to British-occupied Palestine to German-occupied Crete and ultimately to modern Israel. The narrative moves through time and is told in five conversations about the Mani family. It ends in Athens in 1848 with Avraham Mani's powerful tale about the death of his young son in Jerusalem.

A profoundly human novel, rich in drama, irony, and wit.

The first reader has a horribly high pitched voice which got on my nerves. The main story was hard to stay focused on - maybe because all the stories are told in a unilateral conversation, which also was hard on my nerves. So this audio version was not a pleasure to listen to. I had to go online to research what this book was supposed to be about. I think the text version would be a better option.

A beautiful Jewish family saga that unfolds on a background of important events in Israel's history. Well-written. Highly recommend.

The narrator was excellent. But I must admit that I’m not 100% sure that I understood what the author wanted to give to us, the reader.

I missed the plot completely!
