About this listen

Some people think Hawaii is paradise, but Monk knows that danger, like dirt, lurks everywhere. Look at Helen Gruber, the rich tourist who took a fatal blow from a coconut. The police say it fell from a tree, but Monk suspects otherwise. His assistant Natalie isn't exactly thrilled about Monk's latest investigation. It was bad enough Monk followed her on vacation, and now it looks like the vacation is over.©2006 Universal Studios Licensing, LLC (P)2009 BBC Audio Detective Fiction Literature & Fiction Movie, TV & Video Game Tie-Ins Mystery Private Investigators Suspense Tie-in Witty

Can Mr. Monk survive Hawaii...?

"Mr. Monk Goes to Hawaii" is a mystery novel written by Lee Goldberg, published in 2006. The book is part of the "Mr. Monk" series, which is based on the popular television series of the same name. The story is set in Hawaii and features the eccentric detective Adrian Monk as he tries to solve a murder case while dealing with his phobias and obsessions.

The book begins with Monk and his assistant, Natalie Teeger, traveling to Hawaii for a much-needed vacation. However, their plans are disrupted when they witness a murder on the airplane. Monk immediately gets involved in the investigation and starts to suspect that the killer is a fellow passenger. He also becomes convinced that the victim's wife is not as innocent as she seems.

The plot of the book is well-crafted, and the pacing is excellent. The author keeps the reader engaged throughout the story by introducing various twists and turns. The characters are well-developed, and the dialogue is witty and engaging. The descriptions of the Hawaiian landscape and culture are vivid, and the author successfully creates a sense of place that adds to the overall ambiance of the book.

One of the strengths of the book is the portrayal of Adrian Monk. The character is complex and layered, and the author captures his phobias and quirks with sensitivity and authenticity. Monk's interactions with Natalie, who serves as his sounding board and confidante, are also well-done. Their relationship is one of the highlights of the book, and the author effectively uses it to add depth to both characters.

The book also tackles some serious themes, such as domestic violence and the dangers of unchecked ambition. The author handles these topics with sensitivity and nuance, and they add a layer of depth to the book.

Overall, "Mr. Monk Goes to Hawaii" is an excellent addition to the "Mr. Monk" series. The book is well-written, and the characters are engaging and well-developed. The plot is intriguing, and the pacing is excellent. The book is recommended for fans of the television series and anyone who enjoys a good mystery novel.

Mr Monk Takes Drugs

I liked this story overall. Fun to see Mr Monk in a different setting. I like how kind he is to Natalie. I was confused how he solved the murder and there was still 2 hours left but was pleased with the ending!

A fun ride

Humorous, not too deep, relaxing, like sitting in a favorite chair. Like the TV show, something the whole family could listen to.

Delightful listen

If you haven't heard a MONK audiobook yet, this one is quite delightful.
The story is is plotted out well.
The narrator does a good job.
The only reason I give this book a 4 stars instead of 5 is the over use of the word "said", but that might just be me.

If you like MONK the series, or the other MONK novels, you will have fun listening to this installment.
